i have hp recovery discs for my hp dv6 laptop. I want to store those discs as .iso or any image file format but when i try to create an image file (.iso or mdx) it encounters an error and image file is not created successfully. Has it got something to do with write protection on disc ? Or recovery discs cant be stored as images?

As previously mentioned, you should be able to save it as a bootable ISO for future use, and to allow you to recreate it. I personally use Imgburn, as it is pretty straightforward and upon testing, the disc and it's contents are still working the way they are supposed to after re-burning them to a new disc. That's a big plus because my old Dell had recovery discs and they used to want to charge me for a replacement in case those discs stop working. No thank you, I said.
