I purchased a WD6400AAKS before 2 days and wrote data on that.

Today when I started my machine I am not able to see the disk through explorer.

However HDTUNE shows the disk and even BIOS recognizes it.

Windows disk management wizard launches intialize and convert disk wizard.

If I do this I will loose all my data.

Any idea why is this happening?
Why windows is suddenly not detecting the disk?

Can you please post screen capture of Disk Management. Want to see how this HDD shows up in Disk Management.

+1 to Eazy sir's suggestion.

The Disk could be initialized as a Dynamic drive rather than Basic. Format the HDD from within Disk Management using "Basic" and see if shows up. :)

Yes I experienced sometimes with my WD 500 AAKS drive.

some times i have to remove the DataCable n plug it again like that. i dont know the cause. Suddenly while working it will disappear from SYSTEM.

once again. i might be foolish. i dnt knw the exact cause. i just done something and it went fine on me.

The disk does not show in disk management at all.

Disk management senses it as a new disk and wants to initialize it which means that I will lose data which I have stored on it.

I saw a lost volume on this drive through acronis and recovered it through the recovery manager.

But I am wondering how the volume got deleted.

Any clues?

If u've got the relevant data from the lost volume, why bother anyway? Proceed with the initialisation and format it as the Basic partition.
