Strange Network Card Problem

My old P4 motherboard's integrated lan card is showing problems, the Green LED is showing at the back but when i ping Local host , there is no response "destination not reachable". that was a day ago but suddenly it started to work and everything worked fine for few hrs but now again its dead and fails to respond to LOCAL HOST ping

is this driver problem or the lan card slowly dieing ???
 
Cant say right now. Have you checked the network cable & its connector? It should be plugged in properly inside the lan card, even a loose connection can cause the issue. Also try setting your lan card speed to 10mps full duplex initially & try.

Green led should start blinking once you ping or do any network activity else the led stays just ON.
 
yes the connection is ok, the cable is perfectly fine but the pin can be a issue. I will check and report back.
