I was browsing for sometime then suddenly the net went off. Then when again it came back and i tried to open a site using opera google search engine.(pls refer the image)Generally i use that only for searching.

1.It said the browser is no longer supported and gave an option to update.

2.I did and saved the downloaded file on the desktop.

3.When i double clicked that file after few secs it just vanished. But still opera gave same message.

4.I repeated the steps again but in vain.

5.Then i restarted the system. Now if i dont connect to the internet the system works fine but if i connect after few secs it slows down too much.Task manager shows 100% cpu usage.Even it takes ages to refresh.

I am on windows 7 ultimate (dual boot) sp1.

Please help.

What was the downloaded file?

Does it happen with Opera only or with other browsers as well?

Do you have a firewall and did you run a virus scan?

Also did you try to reinstall Opera?

^^Thats the problem i didnt scruntinized the file properly. It was around 50+kb file.
Uninstalled opera still problem persists.
Yes the firewall usually remains on but after that file installation i was getting a message that windows firewall is turned off!

Better scan your system with a good anti virus.

For free ones, you can try Malwarebytes Anti Malware or Avast.

Other good ones are Norton, Kaspersky and Eset NOD32.

There is a certain program called svhost.exe showing usage of 98% of cpu. When i delete that it works fine.

But now i even cant get a connection to the net it is not allowing.
kaspersky couldnt find any virus too.

I too recommend malwarebytes. I was sceptical about it myself, but it turned out to be really good. It is not an anti-virus, more of a detector. Do give it a shot.

Alright guys it seems it worked. But it seems it is unable to delete that file because i am getting this message randomly

even after doing full system scan and removing the ,malicious items. Can anybody please help in deleting that file completely.

I had a similar issue some time back and this saved me: Norton Rescue Tools

Hope it helps you too.

You can try this:

In command prompt type: 'tasklist /svc'

Check the service name against each 'svchost.exe'

If you find an 'svchost.exe' for which you do not recogonize the service kill it by 'taskkill /f /pid PID'.

PID is the process Id of the infected 'svchost.exe'

Or you can go to Services
Start>Run>Services.msc
Stop the Service. Set the startup type to disabled.

Check with 'tasklist /svc' in command prompt to see if the process has been stopped successfully.

Try Malwarebytes now.

Elaboration of my previous post:

My tasklist

Check Process PID 1184. It has several services running under it.

Services like Audiosrv, Dhcp etc. are known to me so I know they are all right. But, BITS is not known to me but a quick google search tells me it is abbreviation for 'Background Intelligent Transfer Service' which again is valid. If all the services for the processes are valid then you can skip that and focus on the next 'svchost.exe'.

Generally all svchost.exe have service names and infected ones have N/A but not all services that have N/A are virus for example - PID 2028 (WZCSLDR2) is not a virus but it is an executable file associated with my wi-fi dongle. The reason service is shown as N/A, is because it is not listed in Services.

Now if the infection has made an entry in services it will show you a service name that you need to verify. Else if it has not made an entry it will show you a N/A and you can kill it and try MalwareBytes.

or

Download Process Explorer from Process Explorer

Click on the process and it will show you it's associated dll and description in the lower pane. Follow the above explanation for determining which process to kill. Mind you in process explorer WZCSLDR2 will show description for it's dlls.

Note : Kill the crucial Svchost blindly and your system will restart.
