Strange problem in FireFox 1.0.1

This problem started a day or two ago. I am at my wits end.

1. I run FireFox and type in an URL (say www.google.com)
2. After sometime FireFox says "Site could not be found. Check name and try again"
3. I open IE6 and type the same URL. Site opens, no problems.
4. I Alt-Tab to FireFox and try site again. It opens now.

I am going crazy doing this Alt-Tabbing business between IE6 and FF. I accidentally discovered this when I could not get any site in FF and I thought I will try in IE.

I am on a 512K broadband so connectivity is not an issue.

What could be the problem? I have tried every possible configuration setting in FF but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

This is just happening to me right this second,i have some bookmarks which will not work on Fx for some reason or the other,i am gonna see whats wrong..

Ok, I got another weird prob with ffx, I enter my id password in gmail, it says redirecting then after some time it shows done in status bar, but I still have a blank page :( help...

Hey, that worked for me too. Cleared everything and we are back in business. Now it takes a little more time whenever a new address is typed, the status bar displays "Looking up www.whatever.com" and then connects. But at least it is connecting. Maybe the IP address table was screwed. Is there such a thing in the first place?

What could have been the problem? This has never happened in IE at any time.

Anyway, thanks Albert, for the tip.

Yes it will take a bit more time cuz you just deleted all your cache/cookies so every site you use to visit will take a bit longer to load, but that's just for 1st time after clearing.
Cookies/cache got corrupted & that's why it happened,it does happen in all browser's,i for one always clear the cache/cookies/history from time to time.
Btw do you have your Fx tweaked?

& your more then welcome,we are all here to help each other :)

"Tweaked"? No, it is an un-tweaked install. What exactly do you mean by tweaking? How does one go about tweaking FX?

EDIT: Ah, I just saw your thread on FireTune. Downloading now...
