Guys i am stuck with an Indian manufactured legit disc which is not playing on my ps3.. which happens to be my standalone media player atm.
The disc's content can be copied and played on a pc.. but those very files are not playing on LCD tv via its usb ports, giving codec errors.

The disc's box reads it has some encryption on it which is not enabling me to create a working dvd movie disc from the copied contents (vob files) of the original disc.

It has been a while that i tried to burn a disc, let alone had a face off with an encrypted one. So do help me out here in creating a dvd which ll play on my Indian ps3.

Yep.

a) Did tried DVD Decrypter, and with the settings:

1. Select Mode->IFO

2. Tools->Settings->IFO Mode->File Splitting->By Chapter

Result: Files got extracted in VOB format, but the encryption/protection remains.

Error: http://i41.tinypic.com/11t9buh.png

b) Installed AnyDVD, and with default settings tried to extract the files using dvd decrypter again.. but to no avail.

Result: Same error as previous.

(net has been acting up for the past 3 days, cant refer to guides/tips..and i am not acquainted with this process one bit)

^Nope.

This is a [noob alert] query here. As mentioned in the OP.. no clue about finding ways around encrypted discs.

Anything else guys ?? C'mon.. dvds arent that obsolete..

use nero vision and not nero express. nero vision should let you create your own menus too. when I said nero, I meant nero vision.

And they are not encrypted dvds. no one in indian dvd publishing is smart enough to create encrypted and region locked dvds. :P

maybe the disc is bad. i had a music cd which had some pc encryption on it and it wouldn't even show up in my pc or anything. the pc drive would just eject the disc.

But the same disc would just play without issues in cd/dvd player.

pc dvd drives are region free now, and they read data same way as dvd players. so any disc with or without encryption will play on it. only the bad discs like those written with bad sectors etc, dont get read properly on them. you might have to do a sector by sector scan to get the first data sector off the dvd.

try imgburn software to do a bit by bit copy of the dvd if it's visible in pc and then try decrypting the bin or iso file.

#Spacescreamer, is this the DVD I gave? If so, for the rest of the folks I need to add that this DVD plays fine on a old standalone LG DVD player, but not on most other players it has been tried on. Can it have something to do with the older player not being 'smart' enough to detect the lock / encryption whatever?

I have seen the same issue with moser baer old movies DVDs which i have, when ripping them, face the same issue. I used Dvdfab and no issues. else all patchy.

BTW, try HD Decrypter from DVDFab and see. Its free, makes a DVD file/ISO without the copy protections.
