I am soon planning to buy a media player and it has an internal SATA interface to connect a 3.5" HDD. So i have decided to go with a 1TB HDD.

1. Which brand would be good - Seagate or WD or Hitachi ??
2. WD Green and Black 1TB have too much price difference..why ??
3. Internationally Warranty - I plan to buy HDD from here itself so it is very important that i get International warranty.
4. Usage is for media player so i will be playing 1080p videos off it.
5. Also Bittorrent downloads would happen on the HDD.

Please suggest.

IMO Seagate 1TB 7200.12 @ 3.9k.

WD Green & Black have difference because of their data transfer speeds..

Green is ordinary Drive & Black is 7200RPM Drive like Seagate but it's more Expensive than Seagate.

WD Green 16MB drive - WD10EACS

WD Green 32MB drive - WD10EADS

You can get a Seagate 7200.12 HDD with 32MB cache for similar price.

I guess both comes with a 5 yrs warranty. So just decide based on your personal choice. The seagate is a couple of hundreds less than the WD.

But at the end of day seagate or WD anyone is ok right ??

Because to be frank couple of years back i had only two names knows seagate and samsung and now everyone talks about WD. So bit confused.

BTW what about international warranty ?? Is it only serial number based which will enable me getting a RMA (in worst case scenario) in India also ???

Ok Guys. so i am going to get the WD Green 1TB over the weekend. But i really don't know much about what all to check before i put the HDD to its use. Please suggest what are the first things i should do after i get the HDD ?

Please note that i do not have a computer to test (only a laptop) this HDD and it will mounted in a media player which will be accessed with either through a LAN cable or Wifi Connection (from the lappy) or USB cable.
