Ok, so this is really a weird request i know. My requirement is as follows

Need a 46" Full HD LCD TV for

1. Watching normal TV (currently i have normal cable at home, may get Tata Sky if cable cannot be used on that (quality issues))
2. Watching HD content using mostly an HTPC (next in line) or may be a media player (WD TV Types)
3. If i build an HTPC then i will use the TV as a giant monitor to surf the web and may be occasional game play.
4. Will be hooking my PS2 to the TV.
5. What else i can do ?

Now coming the weird part. I actually plan to buy the TV after Diwali, because that is when i will be back to India (Mumbai). I have not decided my budget yet but cannot stretch beyond 1 Lakh as HTPC would also attract a good investment. Now saying the 1 Lakh figure does not mean you cannot suggest a cheaper option. They are anytime welcome. If there is a good TV with cheaper option then nothing like that. Currently the prices of good LCD TVs are quiet high but i expect them to come down by year end and diwali should bring in good offers. But by that time new models may come which would definitely be expensive. So my requirement is that it is not necessary to have a latest model TV but a good VFM since as it is whatever i buy would become old in a month or so.

About brands i am not very sure which to go ahead with, but looking at the general trend, it seems people are more interested in Samsung (series unknown) and Sony Bravia. Panasonic is also there but i am not interested in plasmas.

I had seen Vu brand which is cheaper also but it seems they may not be as good as Samsung and Sony.

Also i have heard a lot about grey market and all. How does one procure a TV through this channel and is it really worth taking the risk as there would be no warranty on that TV.

So guys it is over to you to suggest me a VFM TV which i can purchase in November / December and would hopefully cost me less than what it is available for now.

^^ But i do not know how to buy something like TV from grey market ??

I mean i know the definition of grey as something without bill. For example there was a time when alfa in Mumbai used to sell phones with and without bill and i suppose without bill would be termed as grey. Buying a modded wii from alfa or manish market would mean buying from grey market.

But TV...confused !!!!

PS: The link says this product is no longer available (on right side)

If you can find it , the Sharp Aquos LC-46A66M , will set you back by ~ 95k

Philips 47PFL5403 costs 1.05l , looks stunning too .

well with a budget of 1lakh u can look at the samsung 46B650 good VFM and decent performance, alternately look at sony 46V550A.
well many people in this forum have bought tvs from grey market,no issues whats so ever.i mean if u buy officialy samsung and sony offer 1 year warranty which isn't a big deal.the price difference b/w grey and showroom is huge for sony brand for instance a tv like sony Z series is 50k cheaper in grey then showroom.

^^ All said and done how do i know which place i can buy stuff in Grey (in Mumbai per se)

This is the biggest question for me :(
