My brother needs a new laptop with a budget of 60k.

Basic Requirements:

-Screen Size: 14-15"
-Battery life should be great! At least 5-6 hrs
-Portable (not too heavy)
-Need a strong processor
-GPU not necessary and even onboard will do
-HDD- 750 GB (500 GB will do but 750 preferred)
-Great quality keyboard and optical Trackpad

The user is a programmer, and needs a Hardcore Development machine!

Holy shit.. business????? man.. this is a great budget even for high end gaming rig.. .

If you want a good battery life, look at the Acer Aspire Timeline X models.. they're built especially for longer battery life. Pick one without a graphic card and you will be good to go..

Plus, they look sleek and smart, no nonsense funky design, a very business kind of smart look. Just what you need..

Also look at the ASUS laptops. .they're great too. but I do not have any info about how the after sales service is . or even that whether you'd need any .

If hes a programmer, I'd suggest to be more inclined towards the 15.6" laptops.. 14" would be too small for a programmer who needs to work for long hours on his computer.

Keyboard?? The keyboards on the Acer, ASUS, Toshiba laptops are quite good.. HP earlier had inferior quality, but even they've improvised now..

But I dont know about their endurance.. I mean it all comes down to how one uses the keyboard.. My inferior quality HP keyboard hasnt given me any problems till date.. My laptops 2 yrs old.. and even though I am not a programmer, I type a lot at speeds in excess of 70 WPM net.. But I make sure that I remember i am using a laptop keyboard, which is much more fragile than a data entry keyboard and especially take care not to hammer the keys. .just type with them..

Lots of people are in the habit of hammering the keys .. especially the enter key.. (maybe they derive some sadistic pleasure out of torturing the keyboard like that)

With people like these, have seen even good quality desktop keyboards give up..

So if you look at ACER or ASUS laptops, whether or not you care about value for money, you still are going to get it no matter which one you pick from these companies.

PS: If you are concerned about overheating also, look at some of the high end ASUS laptops. These laptops incorporate special heat dissipating design unlike any other companies I have come across..(Only in the gaming series laptops) They have specially designed laptops in which the heat generating components are placed away from the users palms, plus the internal air circulation design has also been explained on their website, which is quite unique... and they look sexy , rugged too. have a look..

13" MBP or 13"/11" MBA would be the best option.. If not interested in Mac, then thinkpad would be the best..

Also you can try ultrabook for its portability

I'll suggest him TimeLineX 5830. Looks like a good laptop to me

He is inclined towards Thinkpad T420.

He's not interested in MBA .

Can i have a few links to some good laptops please ?? :)

Get the thinkpad T420 or L420. I am getting myself the thinkpad x220 ultraportable very soon. Dont even consider the apple mbp -- they are not in the same league as serious business laptops from Lenovo,HP,Dell. The apple laptops are seriously incompetent when compared to thinkpads. The Hp Elitebook 8640p is a brilliant laptop as well. LAPTOP Magazine - Product reviews, tech news, buying guides, and more

Avoid acer - they have woeful quality.

Avoid that acer model, its not a business class machine, Consider Lenovo thinkpad series or Dell Vostro and Latitude series.

Avoid that acer model, its not a business class machine

not that i am trying to argue with you, but can you please explain as to what business class machine means?? Acer has come out with the perfect combination of decent smart looks, no funky design, and decent processing power, neatly laid out keyboard combined with a decent graphic card too.. thats all..and at a very very competitive price. I love about acer and asus that they have models without preloaded Windows. .. forcing users to use preloaded windows and charging for it is the biggest scam....

If the T420 is in his budget, tell him to just take that

Awesome keyboard, trackpoint is a major benefit

The machine is physically indestructable, the screen is a matte finish and hence no glare

Driver support is great with Thinkpads as well, after sales too (and you can get upto 7(or 9, not sure most prob 7) years warranty and 5 years physical damage protection if you like)

Has a nice clean no nonsense look to it, you dont need to take care of the laptop like a 60k machine. You can throw it around like a Nokia 1100 and it wont complain

Thinkpad all the way, pretty rugged and can handle a lot of abuse but much heavier than most other laptops though which i personally found to be too much for my comfort, but no other issues.

If not then Dell latitude series E6410 or something, much lighter than think pads and can second best after thinkpads also good service from Dell

Used it for 3 years and loved it, liked it more than thinkpad as looks wise this is better and lighter, loved the keyboard , much better than thinkpad, probably better than my macbook pro 2011. Con costly not value for money

I would suggest to stay away from Asus or Acer as they are not that rugged and are not meant for rough usage.

^^

Dell Latitude series should be your second choice though I think they do have more heating issues than Thinkpads

Have to disagree on the keyboard, find thinkpad keyboards better than some desktop keyboards

Latitudes come a close second though

Thank you Guys for the response :)

So its gonna be Thinkpad T420. He rejected Acer as he needs a rugged laptop which can handle some abuse (I've seen him carrying his Dell Studio by holding the Screen part, and the keyboard part hangs down :O )

I'll tell him to check Dell Latitude series too!
