My earlier DVD player has started giving sound problems and i dont intend to repair it. Need to buy a new DVD player.
Can anyone suggest me a good buy ?
If it has HDMI out it will be good. It should be black in colour and should look sleek.
Tray out mechanism is preferred and not the CD slot (like dell XPS has).
Bundled HDMI cable will be an added advantage but not necessary.

I am not sure how the HDMI output will be of any help other than my audio and video passing through same cable and not those white, yellow, red ones. Please enlighten me on this too.

I don't remember the exact model numbers, but a few months back when I was in two minds on a DVD player vs a media player, I came across some models in Samsung and Onida around the 3.5K - 4K price range which supported HD videos (1080p), and some of them even had upscaling capabilities. I liked one Samsung model in particular due to its looks. Prices should have dropped now :) Support for non-native formats like mkv was hard to find though, however considering TVs now come with this from a standard USB port, these players too might have been upgraded. Not too sure about the Onida brand, would recommend Samsung instead.

HD DVD Player - DVD Player | SAMSUNG

Market prices around 20% cheaper than listed MRPs when I last checked.

From the above link, the DVD-F1080 looks really good but is expensive for a standalone DVD player

And whats the difference between the HD DVD player and normal DVD player ?

Also a DVD player capable of playing HD videos is not a priority as i have a media player for that. Only requirement is to play Movie VCDs and normal movie DVDs

Well, like I said, it costs much lesser than the displayed MRP. I was quoted 4400 for that. Only difference between HD and standard player is, well, one supports HD videos, the other doesnt :) I suggested that since you mentioned HDMI. For standard output, HDMI makes no sense / difference. If you are looking for a standalone player, you can pick even a Videocon or Moserbaer IMO. They last long.

Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone tell me what is so good about the Pioneer DVD players and officially why is this thing so costly ?

Moreover although i have mentioned HDMI in my requirements, but if that thing is increasing the cost by a lot and HDMI will only help me in playing HD videos then that is strict NO-NO since i already have a media player for this. I just intend to use the DVD player to play standard DVD media and VCDs and should not be complicated to operate and basically should look good. Brand wont matter, just that it has to be a VFM product.

The picture quality of pioneer dvd players is by far the best when it comes to dvd's and avi files. I own a lg, Bose, Xtreamer and pioneer and the pioneer outclasses the other 3 by a good margin. HDMI is irrelevant, even in composite or component its better. If 4.5 is over ur budget, get the dv-320 for 3.5. But when it comes to dvd players, pioneer is surely the way to go.

Which model of pioneer do you have.. ?? I'm just looking for a basic DVD player with USB connectivity. can you suggest the best model in Pioneer for around 4K.. ?

I have the 410 which is a 3 yr old model and is still playing every format i throw at it, including divx6. The latest one is the 420 which sells for 4.5k. Higher end is 620 and below that is the 320. 320 sells for 3.5k but in terms of features, the 420 completely thrashes the 320. Do a comparison...

you can get a phillips dvd player . it is good and sturdy .plus i also think it is not region coded .u can play all region dvd .kindly confirm this as when i was looking for a dvd player i think the dealer told me so .plus philips has a good lens and laser quality so it doesnt go weak so soon and will play your scratchy discs which other players sometimes dont
