Suggest a good DigiCam. Budget - 10k (+/- 1.5 k)

with bill would be preferable

import / local ???? whats the difference and which brands come under each of these

all whats the diff in price if taken with / w/o bill ?

difference with/without bill can be significant... in the range of 3k almost..

import/local implies you buying it froma store locally or getting it from the US thru kmd or suchlike..

a good suggestion(which i personally went by just a week ago) would be the Canon Powershot A570IS. I picked it up for 9.25k here in Mumbai.

7.2 megapixel, 3x optical zoom, Lens Shift IS

@stalker: You know what cam I'm gonna suggest don't you? :D

Sony Cybershot W80: 3x zoom, Image Stabilization, 8MP and Li-ion battery. Smaller, sleeker and better suited to general photos of social occasions. :D

See that post and the thread. :)

BUT, it'd help greatly if you told us your usage of the camera - what do you plan to shoot, where all, etc.

Usage is just normal photography. Like outings, at home etc. Nothing more than that.

Also what do you mean by the 'IS' ??

Sorry but i dont have much information about digicams and their terms

i wasnt able to find the cybershot. so got the 570... i got mine from Alfa..

@payne.. have been using the 570 a lil over the past few days.. and i really have not noticed myself having too much of an issue with the flash recycle.. its not like ppl generally need to reel of 10-20 shots in a go... its more like 4-5 shots.. then a gap.. nd then 4-5 more.. so im fine til now i guess :)

*shrugs* Wogay!

@rak007: In terms of image quality the Sony W, Canon A-series, and Canon IXUS are all very close to each other. The Canon A-series gives you manual controls and a bit more zoom, the Sony W and the Canon IXUS gives you a smaller camera with Li-ion at the expense of manual controls.

Everything else remains the same.

SO, you're better off going to a store and handling these cameras yourself. And picking one depending on feel, look and LCD screen-size. :)

Enjoy.

so can anyone please let me know places in Mumbai where i can have a touch and feel of these cams. I think croma is one good option. Any other are welcome.

Alfa!

croma claims touch and feel and all that but they have very few models.. you can also check out heera panna i guess.

hey stalker, Alfa offers Manufacturer warranty or dealer warranty?

@smoky004 - 570 IS offers optical IS

I have a Canon A570 IS which I got in Jun07 (recommended by TE). :)

So far, I am very happy with it. The cam can take more than 100 shots + video (5 minutes) with a pair of 2500 mAh rechargeables.

The picture quality is pretty good and IS helps a lot.

However, I found that for serious landscape photography, the camera needs improvement. But then, such people better go for Prosumer cameras like the Canon S5IS or Panasonic Lumix FZ18 or Olympus SP560 or.... SLRs.. :)

PM me and i will give u a link of my flickr page where a lot of photos are uploaded.
