as you all know the summer in delhi is getting worse and worse so ive decided to buy a window ac, i cant decide which one to buy, i got a 1.5 ton, samsung unit and it disappointed me big time. it failed so often that most of the worst part of summer i had to spend without ac.
i am seriously considering buying voltas or hitachi, but hitachi seems to be a bit too expensive.
i have a 10'x12' room, on top floor (so you can imagine the roof is exposed to worst sunlight) so guess nothing less than 1.5ton would do (even for only 120sqft).
my main concern is that ac shouldnt fail in worst of the summers (unlike the samsung unit i bought) and they should be able to provide good service in the warranty period. ive heard good reviews of voltas in that field, does anyone here owns one?

get the general ac, check out kamal nagar , bharat electronics or something iirc. this fellow will give u the general ac without bill incase budget is a issue @ less price and give u a personal warranty up of 1 year. i have 7 of these ac's all work great ! and no has really gone wrong with any of them.

Check Carrier as well - Very efficient. Might be in the range of Hitachi in cost but better in performance.

@joyceanblue : from what have you posted i presume you are in delhi, right?

if you are looking at window ac which gives you better performance in delhi`s scorching heat you have to look at the best brands available because some VFM brands may not perform well.

what you should avoid like plague : LG, Samsung, Voltas.

The VFM brands : Onida, Frizair, Electrolux, Carrier, (i have Frizair window acs and they are performing excellently well, my sister has Electrolux AC in her home in Gandhidham (Kutch) and its working to the satisfaction)

Onida and Carrier window acs i have no first hand experience but i have Onida split acs and they are also doing excellently well.

The higher end brands : O-General, Hitachi, Daikin.

As you are in Delhi i will vouch for the Reciprocating Compressors of O-General anyday as then are meant for better heat dissipation while Rotary Compressors are better off with high Humidity areas.

So my first hand suggestion for you would be:
O-general
(if costly then i dont think even Hitachi and Daikin will fint it too) , then you can opt for Onida / Electrolux / Frizair(frizair does have a reciprocating compressor.)

Ya. Daikin also good. But General kicks ass. And also remember, in some models of General, you can set the lowest temperatures to as less as 12. Max of the brands wont let you set temps below 18.

I will settle any day with General. If not General, then sure Hitachi or Daikin.

opps was a typo , kamla nagar is what i meant !!! i dont know the prices but when i got them they were much cheaper than the one with bills for the obvious reasons.

i got the ones without remotes does not mention any model number that i can see over it. i got no idea about the prices as a lot of stuff was brought from him that time. but am sure it was below 20k

General is undoubtedly the best, but Onida isn't too bad either.

We originally had a General Window A/C, brand new etc. Unfortunately for us, when we contacted General locally for service etc., they gave us details of an "authorized" service center, aka a guy with a 1 shutter mechanical workshop that messed up our coils, drilled a hole into our compressor and God knows what not.

Basically, what I'm getting at is, irrespective of which brand you go for, you have to make sure that the after sales service is up to the mark.

General really disappointed us, so we went to Onida and love it, free services and soon as you complain, they show up within 24 hours!

Hope this helped, even though it's not exactly a brand recommendation, it's vital information nonetheless.

now you got me confused man, service is the main issue here.

and kamla nagar is so far from my place. its at the opposite end of delhi.

dude i live in @ east delhi . there are no issues that i have faced there are enough local people to service your ac @ home at your place . all they do is a bit of checking and cleaning up the ac.

onida is the best.at 15500 mumbai price all inclusive with installation ,it is good value for money and has better technology compared to the so called korean cos.

so at the top spot we have general, then onida, carrier and hitachi. so if i dont get a good deal on general i should go for onida?

Ya. I think you should when so many recommending it.

But please check before buying Carrier, as its after sales is not good and I have seen that their cooling capacity tend to degrade faster than other models.

Dude!!.... hitachi is the best...don worry abt the cost.....buy it n u will never look back.

Abt the korean companies,.....we got 3...2 split 1.5 ton samsung forte and LG intelloair.....and 1 samsung window AC 1.5 ton.......no probs whatsoever.

CHEERS.

i inquired abt carrier(dura kool) its rs. 18500.+300 for installation+2200 for stablizer (general is the brand name).

as for ogeneral its around 24k and hitachi is 22k.

p.s. should i go for logistate stablizer?
