Hi,

Here is my current config:

CPU: Intel Core 2 duo e6300 1.8gz
Motherboard: Asus P5b-VM
Ram: 2 GB
Hard Disk: 160gb + 500gb
Monitor: sony bravia 40 inch Full HD (1920x1080)
PSU: Will buy either Cooler Master silent pro 550 or Corsair vx450

Please suggest a GPU that will work well for this setup. I want to play GTA IV, Crysis etc...:hap2:

Thanks in advance.

You basically have a choice between the ATI HD5670 (try getting the 512MB version, The 1 GB is pointless) or the Nvidia GTS 250.

Since your are going for a good PSU, I'd recommend the GTS 250. It does have the edge on perfomance for a marginally higher price.

if i dont upgrade my psu (currently intex 400w) can u use the hd 5670 with it?

Change that shitty PSU first.

A wise old man once said -

One who doesn't afford a decent/good psu, doesn't deserve and shouldn't buy a decent/good gfx card.

:p

I bought Sapphire 5750 from ebay for 8.5 and after 1000 cash back it cost me 7.5. I feel its worth an upgrade above 5670 and GTS 250

For the first phase of the upgrade i am planning a GPU and PSU. Will change the cpu later as well. But between the GTs 250 and 5670 i feal that 250 is better. are there any advantages that 5670 has over gts 250 apart from direct x 11? i will also be using it as a hcpt to watch 1080p content. please suggest.

250 over 5670 anyday, a 5670 cant do much with dx11, as in u cant max out games on dx11 on higher resolutions, also change the psu for the sake of the the entire system let alone graphics card.. i had to learn it the hard way, damaged hard drive n motherboard, psu died n took em as collateral...

according to most reviews a 5670 matches the nvidia 9800gt in most games, trails it in some, gts 250 >= 9800gtx+ > 9800gt ~ 5670

I just bought a CoolerMaster Silent Pro 500w today 4m a TE member. I am planning to buy a used 4890 or a new 5770. Will it work with this PSU.

I also want sugestions on whether to By a new 5770 for 9k or a used 4890 for 9K. As mentioned i will play games like gta iv, crysis etc on a 40 inch LCD at 1080p. I may choose a lower res if required but my main concern is a choice between these two cards?

Go for new HD 5770.Used HD 4890 for 9k is expensive in my opinion unless it is new. Also HD 4890 consumes more power than HD 5770 .HD 5770 has DX 11 support so thats another reason to go for it.

@rob2651983: buying an used PSU is not a very wise decision. You should get an used an 4870 1GB,,5770 will not able to perform well in HD resolution and specially for GTA 4 you need 1gb graphics ram as its one of the texture heavy game. The rule of thumb is if you are getting a 256bit graphics card and played in high resolution you need 1gb graphics ram,,4890 will be too heavy for your psu and too expensive and less VFM solution right now and it will be very difficult to sell off such high end ,power hungry card later.

Why is buying a used PSU not good? The psu was used only for a year and i still have 4 years warrenty on it. But what might be a downside of it? I am now considering between a gts 250 and 5770. Gts 250 is cheaper and 5770 is expensive but has dx11 and better performance. Will it do good for gta iv?

and what abt 5750?

^Performance wise, the 4890 wins hands down although it may not support Dx11 although it isn't a big deal. The power consumption of the 5770 would be lesser and so would be the thermal footprint.

What make is the 4890? How many years of warranty remaining? IINM a new 4890 costs about 11k today. So take into account all these factors before you take the plunge.

You shouldn't have problems playing it ont he 40 incher either way. And yeah your new PSU can take that without breaking a sweat.
