Suggest a hometheater/HI-FI system

Hi guys,

I have following requirements...

1. DVD player
2. Divx playback.
3. 5.1 speaker system
4. am/fm tuner

Budget can go to 20,000 max. I have zeroed on some models from sony and philips. But the main problem is I cant decide whether I should get a home theater system or HI-FI system. I can get all above spec in both.
Main purpose will be music with occasional movie.

So anyone can please tell me the diff between a home-theater and hi-fi, in regard with my requirements.

sony is good but id suggest going for a HT as they have lesser problems as compared to a HIFI from my personal experience

i dont think the sony system has FM

i have a samsung system thats 5000W HT-UPS30,google it out,ull see only good reviews, well if you want the same with speaker stand ase therz somethin better in samsung, mine costed me 13.5k

id suggest a HT

Thanks, but do you realyy think HT handles music better that HiFi?
And yeah SOny model which I'm considering has FM.
Samsung HT-UPS30, does it fulfill all my requirements?
 
Go for Yamaha YHT 165 HT + a DIVX DVD Player..Total cost will go upto 22 to 23.. But a good system.
Sony and Samsung HT's will not play all DVD's .. I tested it personally at many showrooms and most of the Sony,Samsung HT's were not able to play some DVD's / Divx files.
Good if you take ur DVD's when you go to any showrooms and ask them to play it.
 
SO you guys think that a HT system is better adept for music requirements than a HiFi system?

Actually i don't need suggestions on a HT system, I want to know what would suit me better for my requiremtns( ie playing music mostly) - a HT or a HiFi.

PS : Though model recommendations are welcome too :)

in 25k u shud get sony that meets ur requirements but no fm,in 20k ull get some chilled out samsung ht that will blow ur requirements, ur call
 
So guys think, for my requirements I should go for HT rather than HiFi?

I would rather go for a Philips system than Samsung. Mainly because Philips divx players are known for their verstality in playing diff formats. And they have a (football) World Cup offer that is still valid ;)
 
so did i think that philips was numero uno n stuff but GO THERE ,like i did test a few dvds with divx,xvid etc and see the outcome;) i was surprised n is why i bought what i did wouldnt be surprised if you do the same.

GO 4 a HT accordin 2 me

Also instead of listening 2 wut ppl say jus go n see wut suits ur needs and then buy the stuff

Can you guys give me the links to above models? I couldnt find them listed on Indian sites of the Samsung/Philips.
