Hi guys,

I am totally and ultimately confused.

I wanna get a laptop (I have put my Conroe plans on hold....My main rig will be refurbished with decent items as I get hold of cash, for now I need a stable work companion w/ convinience)

Budget is "CONFUSED" (say 60K - 70K)

Is it worthwhile buying it from here? Or shud I get it from outside.

I havent really researched LAPTOPs before therefore am confused of what to expect......

requirements: lotsa RAM

gfx: shud run Desktop in fast order, ok for Vista use

cpu: dual core (T2300, but would really love T2500)

bios: some overclockability?

battery life: 3hrs?

screen size: 14inch+ 1280xYYY atleast...

So please fill me in?

some lappy's i hv seen and liked:

HP Pavilion dv5118TX (EV899PA)

or a customised Inspiron 6400.....

Whadda say?

Regards,

Karan

I would say go for a customised Inspiron 6400. Its a steal for the regular price. And the custom options are pretty cheap too.

Dell anyday... And top it up with a 7800 GPU... Shd cost you around 75K with everything(By everything i meant you go sane not insane :P)... I know somebody who can get you a Dell discount code too :P...

7800 GPU? Switch bhai, care to suggest the full config. How in the gods world will such a laptop come for 75K. Help :ashamed:

I kinda lean towards a dell renegade.. forget the damn model no, some bloke in singi had it... cool looker, and it had a 7800 graphics solution, 1 gig of memory too..
Dell's are good, HP too...

But (and I don't think I need to say this), keep away from the wipro, hcl, zenith, blah...blah SH1T that we get here...:ohyeah: total POS...:ohyeah:

Didn't like the build qual of the ferrari, we had one in our labs, not very impressed...

It will come for 75k if you get it from Dell US site. Configured one sometime back. C2D, 1GB, 7800, 15.4", DVDRW for US$1350. Same thing with Core Solo~1150, and 2 gigs of Ram~1550.

U can get a Customized Dell 9400 for 76-77K that includes 7900GS(256mb), T2300, DVDCombo, 1 GB DDR2 533. It would be a great desktop replacement i would say as it has a 17"WLCD. U will love it.

Strech your budget a little and the ACER ferrari 4002 can be a good choice

Nah that wont be a good idea after all. This notebook is way tooo overpriced for the features it gives. U can get a highly Customized Dell for that money.

Sorry, overlooked something which was already mentioned.

Nevermind, delete the post if some mods see this.

hey guys,

i am seriously investigating the HP dv8216TX (for around Rs 84K) and the dv5118TX (for around 66K.) What interests me is that besides having good features, I get the possibility of buying it on 2 year financing. SInce I am starting my job, I would ease things out for me and would be perfect almost because I wanted to use it for 2 years anyways.

What I wanna know:

1) is there significant difference between this and the dell inspirons and lattitudes?

2) what about the LCD screen? is some basic gaming possible?

3) battery life....

4) overall price/features+performance.

please advice. if u guys vote for HP i might just buy it this week.

so i need some quick help here :D hit me :P

karan i have used the 5118 for over two weeks, its worth every penny. I think HP has the most reasonably priced laptops atm.

about dell, i had a bad experience with their CC, so i tend to keep away from them.:)

if u are comparing the two HP laptops you mentioned, i suggest u go with the 5118 and use spare cash to buy an external HDD, extra 8cell/16cell battery ( u have to experience it to see how quick the battery drains when watching movies n playing games.)

the 8216 @ 3.8 kilos is a backbreaker man, but then its ur preference :D

p.s: i wasnt allowed to install any games, but i did sneak in rthdribl and iirc it gave around 40fps in the default mode.

yea true, but the larger screen size is enticing..... and the 160gb and the other niceties.... (8 cell battery, lighscribe, etc.)

3.8 kgs.... hmm, i dont feel that weight when i do weight lifting.... i hv to go over 15kgs (one hand) to really notice it.... so i shud be okay i guess.... more suggestions guys? btw, thanks smith bhai...

lol, weightliftin, now ur orkut profile pics makes sense.

anyway, its not just the laptop weight that is to be considered.
If ur gonna travel a lot on ur bike etc, the entire kit incl the charger n bag will be over 5kgs.
But yeah 17" widescreens are tempting.

however, do invest in an extra battery in either of the models :).

thanks man.... i am gonna make a trip to the showroom (i cant believe they actually have stock of these things in orissa) and see how heavy and large this actually is. then make a informed decision.

watever u do do check some basic things.
min - 1 gb ram ddr2 667 mhz preferred rather than 533 "the newer asus has it"
now core duo 2 is the obvious choice :P.
check for bluetooth 2.0 nor 1.2
also a better screen but i do feel laptop weight matters when u really put it on lapand work for hours.
also do check hard disk sometimes a 80 gb hdd is enuff if u intend to keep ur datas in a external hdd.
