Forerunner
Budget: Less than 40,000
Primary use: Typing, surfing, Watching movies
Size: 15" will be fine.
Other considerations: This laptop is for my sister and she lives away from home in a hostel. Because of this I expect this laptop to have certain things:
1. It should be pretty. She saw Dell inspiron 1525 in red and she really liked it. Obviously looks are important.
2. A more practical consideration: I can install linux in her laptop but I know configuring Internet will be very difficult. So I would go with windows. But because of the menace of viruses she will have to reinstall windows again and again. I want a laptop with easy restore mechanism.
Please note that 40k is the upper limit. There is no lower limit and since she will never use her laptop for gaming I think much power is not required.

I am not sure, but I think she won't be carrying it around much. So this may be a desktop replacement.

Your suggestions are welcome.

Personal experience...Dell has superior durability compared to other brands - HP, Acer.

Have had all 3. Acer and HP had failed loads of components. Luckily got them replaced, because of the warranty. Dell has lasted flawlessly past 2 years *touch wood*

How can I find genuine dealers of Dell in my city. Do they provide that information on their website. Who is the distributor? Rashi?

Genuine dealers? I doubt u ll get fake stuff with bills :P Most computer dealers are so-called resellers. Just go to them with a model and get a quote. These guys will usually give u better prices than bigger showrooms, and you can always bargain :)

Dell India probably distributes directly I guess. No rashi connection seen till now ;)

BTW, there wont be any easy restore mechanism..Best you can do is backup the partition with any of the disk utilities and teach her how to restore..Wont be much of an hassle..
