some of my frnds will be coming down from the US around december..
i'm planning to ask one of them to get me a nice LCD monitor..

i can spend around 10-13k...and needless to say, i'm looking for atleast 19"..

i see the Viewsonic models rated very highly on newegg...but the acer's and benq's dont look bad either..and at under $200 they seem like a great deal..wat do u guys think..which model wud be the best bet?

wat abt the 20"/20.1" models...theres one by benQ for $270..
BenQ FP202W Black 20.1" 8ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail at Newegg.com
wat do u think of this??

also, which type of panel should i go for...widescreen or normal..? i'll be primarily using it for normal gaming and day to day use...i just wanna get rid off my bulky old CRT(has served me well for like 4 yrs now :))

thanks a ton guys..

thanks TH..
330$ would translate close to 15k..i'll have to stretch my budget slightly..
but is it safe to bring in LCD monitors from the US..i mean, wat r the chances of dead pixels showing up or troubles creeping up while in use..??

also, did u have a look at the BenQ..?

another question, wud i be able to enjoy PS3(when it comes out) games on it, without any loss of quality..??

^I use my Xbox 360 on it, it's just fine.
The Benq has a TN panel, so the colour reproduction and bleeding will be more than on the PVA based Viewsonic. It's worth the extension in budget, IMO.

You shouldn't have an issue with getting the monitor here. Deejay has done this before, and stormblast got his Viewsonic from Singapore, IIRC. No issues.

One thing you can do is ask your friend to check for dead pixels using Dead Pixel Buddy.. if it works fine out of the box, it will be ok in India.

^^Check the monitor in US and then get it shipped here. However the viewsonic is very very flimsy packaging so is a bit risky. I carried my dell in luggage and it arrived here without a scratch... even on the box :P

I havent seen Dell's packing but have seen Viewsonic and its not something which i can call Flimsy..

ohh and i remember seeing the VX2025wm on outpost for 300$ shipped or so a few weeks back, dunno if it still holds

^^Its not enough to endure the torture that checked in baggage has to take... I don't think the homeland security idiots will allow u to carry the box in the cabin baggage anymore.

What about customs ?

And just tell your friends to get it in a small suitcase ... wrap the box with a few towels or something ... should be fine :S ..

Even I got it from SG na, the box is friggin huge, so carrying it in the cabin is out of the question, best he can do to ensure full safety is stuff it up with some clothes, that ways u can even get

through customs easily stating its old

@aksitmohan

carrying the lcd in a suitcase is something which I or any other person here would not recommend

NOPE! that would be quite risky. Its better to carry the monitor in its original packing.

you can bring in electronics of vale 30k customs free the last time i checked so should be ok.. my cousin brought in my dell 2007 no questions asked . but the viewsonics box is a lot more loud than dell :D
