Suggest a Mobile. Budget 8K to 10K

My roomie lost his mobile yesterday and now needs to get a new one. His budget is 8k to 10k. Preferances are either Sony Ericsson or Nokia but even other brands like samsung can be taken into consideration.

Requirements will be decent camera, MP3 player and radio is must. Multiple contacts numbers under single name should be allowed.

Please suggest.
 
there are many in this range .. but you can try the 5230(NOKIA) as of now .. try avoiding SE phones as they are facing a lot of complaints of the phones from 2009 lot ..
 
If your friend offer touchscreen, then the Nokia 5230XM, Samsung Corby/Star can be considered.

Among these I prefer the 5230XM as it is a smartphone, has GPS and a 3.5mm jack too.
 
nokia 5230 should be best bet under 9k if you are ok with touch screen.

agreed it is better than corby. but AFAIK it is not XpressMusic series phone.
 
I am just back from the croma shop here with my roomie. We checked the models and have shortlisted the following

Nokia 5230 (this was not on display but i told it looks like 5800 and does not have a real keyboard)

Corby Plus with sliding QWERTY keyboard

SE C510

He liked the C510 more since it is sony for music and camera. He is not much used to touchscreen and may not go for one.

Any other options we have ??

Is there a Express Music version of 5230 ?? cause nokia site just mentions 5230 and not 5230 XM

I think that was a typo, in ebay in the following listing, he has listed it as Xpressmusic in the description.

eBay India: NOKIA 5230,BILL & 1 YEAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY (item 300381816632 end time 06-Jan-2010 09:30:00 IST)

But here in gsmarena, there's clearly no Xpressmusic tag along with it. So it's just Nokia 5230. Sorry for the confusion guys.

How different is an Expressmusic version of a phone different from a normal version (if such a thing does exist) ?? Do they provide better accessories or what (like Sony giving in ear phones with walkman phones) ?

Also my roomie has sort of decided on the Sony Ericsson c510 as he is acquinted more with sony phones (like me) and swears by its sound quality. And even better since there is a real keypad.

3G, Music player, 3.2 Megapixel camera, features are good for a 8.5k-9k price range IMO
 
^^ But i suppose it does not have a physical keypad and that is what is not desirable. He is not much inclined towards touchscreen phones and really don't want to regret after buying one.
 
The differnece between XpressMusic and Non-Xpress music is the unlimited music downloads for one year offered by the nokia ovi store.

5230 does have exceptional music playback,even though it is not classified as a Non-Xpress music phone but still does a thumping job according to gsmarena.com's review.

Its the best VFM phone available for now.

Sadly no stock in chennai :( have to ask nokia priority dealers.

EDIT: nokia priority dealers have it but are offering it at rs 8.5k,have to convince dad to get it from there.
 
^^ I would suggest against Nokia Priority Dealers as they tend to charge premium than others. Not sure why. They believe (sic) that any nokia mobiles sold outside their shops are grey stuff , thats what the NPD guy in Mumbai told me :@

Yes guys you are totally right,after having talked to them on phone they offered rs 8.5k,when i go in person,they say "Sir,Nokia 5230 is a new model it costs rs 9.2k".

And he offered to take my moto a810 at a exchange price of rs 1500.This is ridicoulus!!

Even univercell and poorvika are offering to take my phone at rs 2000.

Sadly no stocks anywhere else,at last call for enquiry of 5320.

They freakin said 10 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

ON THE PLUS SIDE:

Anyway i got a look at the phone while there,and have to tell you it was simply awesome.The fellow there had BSNL 3G activated,and all web pages loaded in a breeze,the GPS also was very accurate.
 
nokia Priority Dealers always charge premium . from any other shop of same locality you can get for about 7-10% less.
but this phone have all the potential to rule the lowerend touchscreen segment.:)
hope they give kinetic scrolling for 5800xm now. :@
