Hi All,

I am totally confused about Intel Motherboard. I download 32 different Intel Motherboard manual and some of board are really impressive. I heard that Intel motherboard is not good enough in quality. Somebody preferred ASUS and some other preferred GIGABITE. What does you say, With which should i go?

I have 1 pc with DG31PR, on which i face some problem, some of the problem are recently solved by the help of this forum. But i am interested to Upgrade the motherboard.

I really need a motherboard as perfect as possible [I do not want to suffer again as i suffering now in this branded PC]. So i need some suggestion on this two matter.

My old PC configuration.

1> Motherboard = Intel DG31PR ( want to upgrade)

2> Processor = Intel core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz

3> Hard disk = Hitachi 320Gb , 7200 RPM

4> Ram = 1 x 1Gb ddr2 400MHz (Hundai electronics) , 1 x 2Gb ddr2 400 MHz (samsung)

5> Dvd RW = LG

6> PSU = SPL 250w

Need a good motherboard.

Preferred :-

a> 2 separate PS/2 port for key board and mouse (otherwise i have to buy an adapter ps/2 to USB)

b> VGA port.

Thanks for reading.

Any suggestion will appreciated.

Any more information required Please ask.

Thank you once again.

what is the difference between ATX and Micro-ATX motherboard. Is there any extra feature in ATX motherboard.

Intel

Gigabyte

Asus

Which is better in rank.

If there is no problem with your current board i dont see the sense in upgrading to be honest. Unless you are going to OC that processor, which is a good idea.

No my current board had no problem, but now a days

1) my motherboard's fan censor has been damage, so i have to connect the processor fan to the molex 12v rail.

2) Processor and motherboard temperature getting too high like CPU temp. 43 degree to 76 degree (in full load) and motherboard temp. about 71 degree temp.

post no. 30. ( i discuss it in this forum, and as say some of the problem is temporarily managed.)}

3) I think this motherboard does not have pci express 2.0

4) And the much big problem is this motherboard may not support the window 7. in the manual it say

Supported Operating Systems

The Desktop Board supports the following operating systems:

• Microsoft Windows Vista* Ultimate

• Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise

• Microsoft Windows Vista Business

• Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

• Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic

• Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition

• Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition

• Microsoft Windows Vista Business 64-bit edition

• Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition

• Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit edition

• Microsoft Windows* XP Media Center Edition 2005

• Microsoft Windows XP Professional

• Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

• Microsoft Windows XP Home

every time i install window 7, it does run properly for few days, after that it getting slower and slower.

So i am thinking about to change the motherboard, but i am confused which one is good, did i purchase Intel again or other, I love Intel but somebody says that Intel are not the best.

The manual doesn't mention Windows 7 because the manual was written before Windows 7 was released.

The motherboard doesn't have PCI express 2.0, but you don't have a separate graphics card, so it shouldn't affect you at all.

Your motherboards sensors seem to be spoilt, which may be why your fan dies when it's connected to the cpu fan header. It's good that you've connected the fan directly to the molex connector.

If your cabinet has space for more fans, then add some.

Is your computer dusty? Dust build up can cause temps to rise. Get a soft brush, and clean your pc if you feel there's too much dust build up on your cpu and north/south bridge heatsinks.

Enable the balanced power profile in Windows 7, it'll help make the PC run a little cooler. Also enable all power saving options in your motherboards BIOS.

About the slowdowns - Have you done virus scans? Do you have automatic updates running? There can be many causes for slowdowns, and not all of them have to do with hardware.

Thank you very much for your reply and i like it.

Yes i do not have any graphic card till today, but i am wishing to install a nvidia 1Gb ddr2 graphics card which need PCI express 2.0.

In the second case i have very poor situation, My computer cabinet is only 3.5" in wide. so that there is no way to install any other fan unless i change the cabinet.

thirdly Yes my cabinet is too much dusty, I clean the cabinet in every month as a schedule work. But till i can not clean the total cabinet because some portion of the motherboard are bellow the dvd writer and hard disk.

And in the virus issue i use kaspersky internet security. My current antivirus is also kaspersky internet security 2012, which have commercial licence with daily update. No other malware or any thing tool are installed. Only kaspersky internet security 2012.

My current Os is window xp professional sp3.

get a vaccum cleaner or a car vaccum and blow it into the cabby . I do it once in 4 months...

are the dust is cause the increase in motherboard temperature?

No, you don't necessarily need PCIe x16 2.0 to run a graphics card! It is perfectly compatible with x16 1.1 which g31 has.
Even I have 1.1 instead of 2.0 and never faced any problems.
Also where did you read that g41 has 2.0? It also has 1.1 imo. If this is the only reason for upgrading, I recommend don't do it!

If you can run 1.1 16x then you are fine for mid end GPUs. With high end cards like 670 or 7950 oc you will face a 5-15% performance drop. But with 7850 or GTX 570, you are sorta okay. Though you should still upgrade within a year or less if you are with 1.1 and plan to spend over 15k on a GPU.

I really do not want to upgrade but what should i do every time i use this computer to play any game like ea cricket 07 the motherboard temp. going high to 91 degree Centigrade. And i think it is not good sign. As my cabinet is only 3.5" in wide so there is no way to install any fan on it. it have only one cpu fan, and room is non AC room, so there is no other way to cool it. And as my cabby is only 3.5" wide so that my SMPS too. So if I wish to upgrade the cabby then i have to upgrade the SMPS too. Which will may cost around 5k. I upgrade the BIOS in April 2012, so this not the BIOS problem.
