Laptops Suggest a netbook

I need Netbook when I am travelling. I already have bigger 17" Dell laptop that works fine, but I need Netbook as second easy-to-carry laptop. I need it basically for mails & editing viewing few docs and likes.

I had a look at HP mini and disliked it.. Dell Inspiron mini 10 is ok, but rather bland. Lenovo S10-2 is fine, in fact good one but I don't want Windows 7 Starter with just 1 GB memory. It's disaster!! :(

I need 10" screen with good battery life and bigger hard disk is definitely a plus (so is 2 GB memory, which I will definitely add).

After my homework I have shortlisted 3 models for my consideration -

(1) Asus 1005 HA - though I haven't had a chance to look at it.
(2) Samsung N140 - I am impressed by its reviews and battery life.
(3) Lenovo S10-2 - Liked its look for nature variant and 250 GB HDD is a plus. But only if I get a good deal on this one. I can dump Windows Starter 7 (which doesn't even allow to change its wallpaper and with 1 GB it would be pain to run it) and put Ubuntu Netbook remix or JoliCloud on that.

Any suggestions here? Also let me know where can I purchase it in Pune, the rates I hve been given are rather on the higher side for these ones. In fact I haven't got any rate for Asus, and other two are available for 18.5K and I am getting free DVD writer with Samsung.

What's your recommendation, non-glossy screen and good build quality definitely score very high in my list of priorities.

Samsung N140 seems good, as it also comes with a free DVD Writer. But check the rates at some mroe places also.
 
Any suggestions about places where I can look for these netbooks at a reasonable cost? I am done with Croma, Gadgets & Laptops & House Of Laptops. All of them are rather pricey and not having a good range!
 
I am not from Pune but out here in Mumbai (Andheri) Vijay Sales has a better collection of netbooks than Cromas.

My vote goes to Asus 1005HA for its battery life and ability to play 720p movies.

P.S.: I am waiting for ION based netbooks to be available locally. Uncomfortable with buying stuff online.
 
I have had chance to look at few models at Vijay Sales in Pune, but they didn't have any one of the models that I mentioned above.

You sure that WIndows 7 on 1GB RAM is a disaster????

I saw Windows 7 Ultimate running on my friends HP Mini which has 1GB RAM and to me it seemed that it ran fine. Not at all slow. The Aero effects were there too.

If you are forming your opinion based on the netbook which you played with at the showroom, then you are mistaken. Most of the OS es which come preinstalled, have a lot of cr@pware pre-installed. If those are removed or if you do a fresh install of the OS, the usability will be much improved.
 
for a netbook, win 7 with 1Gb ram should be okay but better get it with 2Gb RAM. apps like office outlook quickly eat up 200-300Mb of RAM
 
Yes, I will go for 2 GB RAM for better performance, but I need some pointers about reliable and reasonably priced shops/dealers here in Pune and also some suggestions about the model.

you should be able to get better prices from shops like baba computer and compuciti in camp.

though they still will be higher than the prices you will see online and at mumbai/delhi. do consider buying from ebay if you have coupons available. octroi will be applicable though :(
