Okay I've done a lot of research into this subject and want a new PCI-E card for my rig.I am keen on the X800GT 256MB(since the 6600GT 256mb is a hard find) from Powercolor for $160.I am worried about SM3.0 But apart from that it seems to be a great deal. What say?

Heehee, how the mighty have fallen.

As for SM 3.0, well it really isn't used that much yet, and they say nVidia's thing is not upto the mark yet...

OMFG!!! OMFG!!! OMFG!!!

Man you just lost whatever respect i had for you being an nvIDIOT... First a Mobo and now a Card... Next time think twice before making bold statements...

Back to topic... X800GT is a crappiest version of X800 series... Look for a normal X800 or a X800 pro... And why not newegg or monarch... Also Powercolor is the crappiest of brands... I hope you remember that much from India...

Since already have an ATi mobo why not go ahead and sleep with the enemy anyway.

And I presume there will less driver headaches as Ati has followed Nv's model of unified drivers. So I will need to download only done 'thing' to get 'everything' going.

I haven't kept abreast of latest video card news,when is Ati's R515 or Nv's 7600 due anyway?

Switch:The Powercolor X800GT is rated quite favorably actually, tends to OC more than the Sapphire version whic has more or less the same cooler.

As for being an Nvidiot, well I thought why not give Ati a try esp since its cheaper here in the states.

^^ i concur. R520 launch - Sept and its already 6th so it should be anytime soon. Now that you have decided to get a taste of ATi i suggest that you hold on for a bit more :ohyeah:

The X800XL is for $100 more ,exactly but is it worth it?
if you can afford it then (oct), then go in for R520 @ $400+ prices.
else you can get the cheaper version R515. it would be released within days of the R520 cards (or even earlier) and will be priced quite cheap.

else out of the current lot from ATI .....
if you can wait till oct you might get the sapphire x800xl for around $220~ 240 range. (anticipation)

A very good economical card and truly there is no need to even o/c it much. even @ default speeds bf2, farcry etc play beautifully @ high settings.and i say it from my expirience with it.

ps: BTW, where are you based UT ????

UT, lol not even considering any NV cards here !!!!

I agree with others wait for the r520 launch, or else go with a X800 not X800GT. The former is a 12 pipeline card. Even X800 pro's prices are coming prety low.

@deejay, he is in Hammond,Indiana.

@UT --- I say that you wait for sometime. Coz once ATI releases the R5xx series, not only ATi's cards buit even NV's cards' prices are going to drop.

Well I see lotsa ppl recommending X800 cards. They are not worth the premium. The powercolor X800GT is clocked at 475MHz and easily overclocks to around 550 since its based on R480 cores giving it a theoretical fillrate of 4400 megapixel. The vanilla x800 clocks only a max upto 430 giving it a fillrate of 5100 odd. Factor in memory bandwidth into the equation and the balance tilts to the X800GT since it has 1GHz DDR3 while the X800 has 700 MHz DDR1. Also the difference in cost is around 40$ between the X800GT and vanilla X800 with 256MB memory.... this makes the X800GT a no brainer to buy.
