PC Peripherals suggest a printer for around 5k

hello peeps....
messa on the hunt for a printer, colour printer for hmm around 5k. can stretch the budget though....

now my needs are -
printing project reports , both b/w and coloured.. along with those cliparts and sometimes pics too... so need clarity in the printouts...

so suggest me a good printer.... also if there is some deal somewhere on a printer .. lemme know abt it..
also lemme know the ink requirements pls( in the sense that from where ya buy em, and if i have to necessarily buy original ink, or can just get it refilled).. me a total dud..

also those tshirt printing printers are costly???? or can they do tshirt printing and normal paper printing too ... :S.. (As i said me a dud :bleh:)

so help guys!

i dont think you put in a t-shirt in the printer to print on it..
Its a transfer paper that you use to print on.. and then you iron that paper on to the t-shirt..

get a Canon Pixma iP 1000,it would be perfect for your needs.price around
3k.however it doesnt have a paper output tray or Pictbridge.
if u can stretch the budget to 7k,u can get the canon pixma ip 3000 with the above features also and better quality prints+good photo prints+faster printing, but i think for ur project work the iP 1000 should be just fine.

My friend has a hp inkjet printer and he refills the black cartridge for 100 bucks. It prints fine. What i want to know is that, is it harmful for the printer in the long run.

At office, we've been using refilled cartridges for almost a year now. printer's still working fine.

Personally, with my old Epson Stylus printer, i was using the cheaper Amkette cartridges. THe printer last me 4 years and still prints fine today, except i chose to upgrade to HP PSC 1410.

Though the manufacturer (in this case HP) clearly states that the warranty is void if u use any cartridge (including refilled) other than HP original, as long as the refilling is done with care, there shouldn't be much of a problem.

its isnt harmful for the printer but for the cartridge (rather print head) since in the HP printer the printing head is on the cartridge itself.
WIth the poor quality ink it would clog the print head if the printer is not used for some days and only option left would be cartridge replacement. Which would be a bit costlier than original ink refill.

Hp -> Print head is on cartridge, so low quality ink can damage stuff. Also new cartridges are ridiculously expensive, howz arnd 1100 for black cartridge?

Canon -> Print head not on cartridge. So instead of getting cartridges refilled, get 3rd party cartridges really cheap (like 150 bux color, 75 bux black). You might need to get print head replaced after a couple of years, but still works out cheaper than HP in my experience.

Last I checked, HP PSC was cheaper than the cheapest Canon PSC by about 1.5k. Probably since then, Canon would've come out with more models. Maybe you can squeeze in PSCF (Printer-Scanner-Copier-Fax) if u stretch ur budget a little.

Dont use refilled catridges to save money, it will be costlier in the long run. I lost an Epson printer because of that. Either buy the original catridges or at the worst get your self a reputed third party catridge.

HP Printers are the best in terms of availability of original catridges, the quality of the printer and value for money.

@delhiboy.. ya saw.. but that is only black and white nah?? i already got a laser printer in my uncle's office re.. need for colourprinting.. which is imp for me now

@ananth.. hmm a print-copy-scan MFD .. also would do fine... but i didnt get the copy part?? its like a xerox machine?? err or does it copy stuff onto the computer?? and i did read somewhere that if even one of the components stops working then the whole machine would become useless, until repaired.. is it true? and are the mfds durable and long lasting... ?? if so then suggest me some mfd's too.. and yes i can extend my budget.. depending on the product and how good it is.. (have to buy it in a couple of weeks time, b4 all my presentations start) ...

lemme know people

thanks

yes,the copy part is like a xerox machine.buy a MFD only if u REALLY need to,because you'll have to spend more than 10k to get one that actually does each-printing,xerox,scanning properly(like the HP DSC 2608).in cheaper ones there is always a compromise on one of the functions+there could also be reliability issues.separate components almost always work better.
so,i suggest that since u need it only for printing work in ur project, get only a printer...later u can buy a separate scanner if needed.and always buy original cartridges.here is where the canon pixma iP3000(not sure abt this feature in iP1000) has an advantage-there are 4 individual colour cartridges and u can refill only the one that is over when needed, thus not wasting the other colours ink as in normal printers.if u can spare 7k and need to print photos, get the iP3000(advantages over iP1000:much better photo printing+pictbridge+paper output tray+faster printing+CD/DVD face printing).....otherwise the iP1000 (3k) is a very economical solution and is a good printer for u to buy.

@chic_magnet,just FYI
I bought hp photosmart all-in-one c3188 for abt 5950/- from lammy yesterday.
Also u can get a canon all-in-one MP150 for 4400/-.

@ananth.. thanks... surely only a printer for me.. anyways got 2 scanners lying around.. :bleh: ... lol

hmm the ip3000 sounds good :)..... but still 7k.. hmmm... little too much..... :(

so it prints photos fine.. but what abt txt?? does it print txt as well too... cause would def print photos.not as much... but yes i would :D..

also does the ip1000 print photos too... then i guess i wouldnt need the ip3000... :D....

any other printers guys?

if u don wanna use original refills(like most of d people).. i'll suggest not 2 go 4 ne of d HP printers..from personal exp..epson is d best in dis regard..
cannon is also gud..
d main drawback with HP is d very expensive repairs..once ur warranty expires..ur gone!

see...there are certain printers called 'photo printers' that print ONLY
4*6 photolab-quality photos and nothing else.
the iP3000 is a 'photo inkjet printer' than can print photolab-quality photos(in various sizes upto A4 size) when loaded with special photo paper and ofcourse, can print text etc. on normal paper.
the iP1000 can also do this, but the quality of photo printouts will be just decent as compared to the iP3000(but not so bad if seen individually).
so for ur project work, and ocassional photo printing(in pretty ok quality),the iP1000 should be good enough.

I use the IP 1000 to print text as well as photos. Pretty decent. In fact i don't even use original cartridges. I buy third party cartridges for like 80 and 100 bux for black and colour and still get good prints. Using it since last 1 year. Photo paper cost me 8 bux a A4 sheet.
