The first thing that i was looking for is where the hell is the monthly pc buying guide gone, so here I need a config for one of my friend who wants to get a rig within 60 to 80k, he wants to overclock and wants it to be futureproof the next two years,

The main recommendations that I am looking at is,

1. Motherboard - Should be really stable and future proof, a few options here would be great.
2. Processor - Intel i7 based but which one? Need the sweet spot one between price and performance.
3. RAM - The best that i can get in Indian market, 4 Gigs minimum.
4. PSU - Which one?
5. Graphics card - Single one preferred so which one here?
6. Monitor - The graphics card should be able to deliver the performance in the monitor, 24 inch would be better or a 22 one? Also what would be like really good panel at the price within the budget.

Since I will be building it for him, and I am completely new to this new i7 thing, it would be better, if say already stable and the been there done that type of Ram stick, motherboard etc are preferred.

well id say get something alone these lines..

a Intel core i7 920 for like 15K

Motherboards there are several choices that start from 16K for a stock intel MB to around 27K for the top of the line motherboards like E-vga x58 and Asus Rampage II extreme.

A good board that i also like is the Asus P6T Deluxe. It sells for approximately

20-22 K.

Ram Again several choices but i swear by my Corsair Dominator

DDR3@1600Mhz series but those will be expensive and even harder to find.

Regular corsair XMS3 Triple Channel kits are like 9K for 3 GB and 16K for 6 GB DDR @ 1333Mhz.

Get a good psu like a corsair hx 620 for around 8K or a CM modular for

approximately the same price.

Or you can get a Corsair HX1000 watt psu for 15K . it is a fantastic psu.

Graphics card either get a 4870 1GB for 17K or a Nvidia G-force gtx 285 for

approx 25K.

Monitors i have no clue.. !! hehehe :)

I love S-ips panel lcd displays thats all :)

The dell 22 inch e-ips is soon coming for around 20 K and the dell 24 inch is approximately 32-35K i think.

Thats all i can tell you about monitors. hehe

Hope this helped you buddy :)

Core i7 920 - ~15k

Gigabyte X58 UD3R - 14.5k (locally!)

Corsair Dominator 3x2GB DDR3 1600MHz sticks - 185U$D via Newegg (Check with KMD! Cheaper than the PI Blacks!)

Sapphire HD 4870 1GB - 220U$D (~14.5k; check with KMD!)

Corsair TX850 - ~9k (check! Prices've gone up!)

Dell S2409W - ~17k

Those're the core components. Input devices, speakers, enclosures are not counted. :P

I am thinking to keep the motherboard budget within 15k, So the gigabyte seems sweet!
Any other processor within a bit less price that is? Or its the sweet spot? Somewhere around 12k would have been good knowing how fast the prices of procy falls.

How much would the 6 Gig ram cost here? kmd route is going to be hard to convince and I just want a local bill thingy as its not for me.

Also I forgot one vital thing, with soo many hard disks getting negative reps, suggest a good/stable hard disk that will go with this? No Raid 0 for now as it increases headeche of backing up huge amount of data, but may simply add one later.

ps - just realised i7 920 is the beginning! :ashamed:

Some changes to Gannu's config -

Core i7 920 - ~15k

Gigabyte X58 UD3R - 14.5k (locally!)

OCZ Platinum 3x2GB DDR3 1600MHz 7-7-7-24 - $124 7.7k~ via Newegg KMD

EVGA GTX 280 SSC 1GB - 22.7k Local Warranty or GTX 285 from US, same price.

Corsair TX650 - 7k

Dell S2409W - 17k

No idea abt the DDR3 sticks locally but I bet its going to be costlier. Convincing ur friend could be easier. :P

As for the hard drive, get the new Seagate 7200.12 (ST3500410AS) 500gigs for the OS (~3k) and if budget permits, get a 1TB WD EACS/EADS drive as the dump drive (~5.2k/5.7k).

Gunman, more than convincing its the headeache of something going wrong and being responsible for it,Thus I am trying to avoid how I would have gone for the goodies.

So the motherboard and processor and PSU and Monitor has been decided and it comes to 54k for the 650 Watts and 56k for the 800 Watts. Throw in a Hard disk and it comes close to 60k A graphics card would take this to 80k. It is crossing the budget, anyways I will get him this config and see what he says, However i would really like to pick up a local pair of RAM, any idea how much would a good DDR3 module cost here? Also the EVGA 280 is better than Ati 4870?

Yes, 4870 competes w/ GTX 260. GTX 280 is differant segment.

Corsair 650W will be enough, i7 965 + X58 + 6x1GB DDRIII + GTX 280 =

GTX 280 SSC (Super Super Clocked) Edition = GTX 285 in performance.

SiriusB has i7 + GTX 295 on HX 620, have seen many XS people running 65nm Quad + 4870X2 on HX620 (keep in mind 4870X2 is power junkie).

Also the EVGA 280 is better than Ati 4870?

what abt the 4850x2...

now driver issues are not there and so it will perform as good as gtx 285 if not better!!
