My friend is looking to buy a wifi router which he is going to use with his hathway internet connection... He is looking for a router which has good range and feature rich... His Budget is 1500 he can extend it to 2000

My Query : Can we use an ADSL router with a non ADSL internet connection? Asking this coz i have heard that Asus DSL-N10 router has a good range and my friend is looking to buy this router as he may change his ISP in the future and would take MTNL internet connection...

TIA

First decide whether you want ADSL Router or not there are limited options for ADSL router and non-ADSL router offers lot of variety

i think the best router you can get for this price is the DLink Wireless N router which has a good range equal to more expensive routers in the range of 3500 rupees. .Earlier i was using the belkin router which costed 3.5K and now am using the DLink which i have recommended to you. you will get this for about 1.5K to 1.65K. and the performance is same.. sometimes i say, its even slightly better..

Can an ADSL router be used with a normal broadband connection for eg Hathway (non ADSL)?

Are you sure? one computer peripheral dealer told me that ADSL routers are incompatible with broadband connection...

if thats not the case then which router should my friend buy Asus DSL-N10 or RT-N13U?

you're right to an extent.. there are ADSL routers which will have an RJ - 11 size slot. (the plug used in land phones) eg. the default routers given by BSNL only have the telephone line in jack, whereas the router which will be required over here is one with RJ - 45 slot. (the normal Eternet LAN plug). all you need to do is check the backside of the router for the jack it has. it might even have both the jacks.

BUT THIS IS THE CASE IF THE LINE THAT COMES DIRECTLY FROM THE ISP, IS A LAN CABLE WITH AN RJ - 45 JACK. MANY ISP'S ALSO USE COAXIAL CABLES WHICH PLUG INTO THE MODEM LIKE THE JACK BEHIND A TELEVISION. PLZ. MAKE SURE WHICH CABLE YOU HAVE.. THE COAXIAL CABLE WILL BE THICKER AND HARDER THAN THE LAN CABLE.

I never said all ADSL router can be used with ISP who provide RJ 45 you just need to make sure your router has both.D-Link DSL 2750U.

RJ-11 4 wires (Mostly used by MTNL/BSNL)

RJ45 is 8 wires (CAT45 .. nuff said)
