Hi Guys,

Suggest a basic router to me. Will be running 24 Hour. Took a look at my dealer, and he has routers of 2 companies.

Buffalo: 1700 - 2 years warranty
Belkin : 1800 (G model) 3 Years warranty
Belkin : 2600 (n model) 3 Years warranty

Also how are netgear routers ? Also can someone tell tell me do I need a N router for some basic use like connecting 2 PC's(wired) and some Wi-fi fun at home.

I am inclined towards Belkin 'cause I am getting 3 years warranty. Suggest one.

My friend also told me that router's become hot when you run them for 24 hours. Is that true ? So what should I do ?

bump.......

I've got a Belkin N series router. Paid 3.9k for it. The range is good, so is the speed. The new Sony laptop I got which has N capability built in gives me copying speed of around 8 MBps. The Dell lappy I had earlier could barely manage to go above 2. It only supported G. (B, G and N are specifications for wireless communication. There are many variants of N but they are more expensive. G is the standard everywhere. Read up more on Wiki. )

Data copying speeds are not that great when it comes to G. And you cannot watch a HD movie over Wi-Fi. It won't be smooth. With the new Sony lappy I got I was able to watch 720p and 1080p without any apparent lag or stutter.

N series is not a necessity for sure, but if you could elaborate what you mean by "Wi-Fi fun", it would be more helpful while suggesting you something. :)

I've ordered a Dell Inpspiron 15 lappy, which has "Dell 1397 Wireless-G card". So I think buying an "N" router is of no point, right ???

Wifi fun means I would just use wifi to use internet, watch youtube videos, etc. So do you mean that I will not be able to watch youtube videos on 720p on lappy ? Because its "G".

No, it just means that you wont be able to stream an HD file over the wireless network without stutter.
