Hi guys,
I want to open a savings account in a bank that supports Internet Banking.

The main purposes will be
TE and other forum purchases through market section via ATM transfer
Paying telephone and Electicity bills online
I'll just maintain the minimum balance and deposit the money when I need to transfer. will this fetch me any extra charges?

Currently my prefered account is with Saraswat bank. Can my saraswat account used for ATM transfers? I've no idea.

Thanks.

In order of preference, you can go for any of the following - HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India.

All of them are top notch banks and support Internet Banking. Charges are dependent on services offered.

No idea about Saraswat Bank.

I have accounts in HDFC and ICICI. I rarely use the Inetrnet Banking facility of HDFC. ICICI works wonderfully for me, and in the period I've been with ICICI, I would have visited the branch thrice (in seven years). Everything happens on the 'net and through ATMs.

One thing worth mentioning here...Axis Bank website is overloaded most of the time and service remains unavailable. So its better to skip that one for Internet Banking. Although I believe they have the maximum number of ATMs after SBI, a lot more than ICICI or HDFC.

Well well well, i guess ICICI and CITIBANK are best for online banking. I've been using Citi since 5-6 years, no probs whatsoever :cool2:

As far as Online banking is concerned i am yet to find a Bank which provides services at par with ICICI Bank......the online services of ICICI Bank is just awesome......it makes banking so hassle free.......

Still a SBI account would be better than HDFC no frill's account . SBI's branches and staff might be crap but once u get online banking activated, it's really good plus you get much bigger atm network to use . ICICI has too high quarterly balance for a very low use account ( 10 k now ) .

i find citibank to be the best.. maybe becuase i am using a corporate account.. but the online banking interface is really good ..easy and swift :)

Also ICICI recently increased minimum balance to 10,000 I think :hap5:

Yes your are right but I think it's on quarterly based (3 months average) correct me if wrong, bad if you really short cash for period, good as you get interest for.

^ It is not good , only 2 free ATM transactions every month . Better go with SBI compared to that .

Please confirm, are you sure that with ICICI only 2 free ATM transactions per month allowed :@

Thanks a LOT guys.
HDFC No Frills looks awesome.

The biggest problem with ICICI is 10,000/- minimum balance and if u fail there is 750/- chrage per quarter. also many small charges on no. transactions.

I'll contact HDFC now.

This was with HDFC's no frills account the last time i checked . It might be removed now . Also in hdfc, third party cash deposit is not allowed in any branch other than home branch . I got this info around 2 months back so rules might be changed now . Confirm with ur branch . That is why i went with SBI .

Well out of this 3...my personal experience....all my family members have account in hdfc...and only i have ppf account in sbi...

Icici::According to my study they are the one who change rule according to their need....high rates wherever money is charged..also lot of complains i hear is of them..so havent tried them

Hdfc::strictly depend on the branch in your particular area....The smaller the branch the better i think its...the 1st one where my account was they were treating us like u r useless ppl...The present one much better....whtever problem i face is easily solved...Also not being a high net individual person..still have managed to get good deals and now in preferred customer category so no charge on 3rd party and free gold debit card for life i have got........but 3rd party restriction doubt still exist...

Sbi::as all know being govt u cant expect better service...but also point here is being govt...large number of lower middle class deposit here...so any big change like wht icici did for minimum balance frm 5 to 10k ...or higher penalty on non maintenance of balance wont happened...as more aam admi will suffer...so wont see such cases their..also net banking might b better since u dont have to encounter them...

So in all i guess sbi will b better and than others ...also being a mumbai guy for stamp duty other imp govt documents u need a dd frm govt bank u can easily manage to get it

Third party deposits are still not allowed in non-base branches I think. The 2 ATM transaction limit per month has been removed.

Also if you are taking the HDFC NoFrills account dont forget to apply for a Debit Card separately. When I opened the account they gave a normal ATM Card.

Yes ICICI keeps on changing the charges all the time. Luckily the new minimum balance requirement is applicable only to new accounts. For old accounts its still 5000. :P

ICICI bank is best for online internet banking. No match for them in india.HDFC sucks in third party cash deposit, even original account holder cant deposit money in other then base branch.Go for ICICI bank if you need fast internet banking ever in India , also people there in ICICI are very friendly.
