Ok so that vodafone guy did come to my home for the demo. I thought it would be the USB broadband but it turned out to be a 3G USB stick which can house a SIM card. It is a 3G ready USB modem but currently because of lack of 3G it can only connect to EDGE network of vodafone which translates into pathetic net speed.
Paying upfront 1750 for modem and 650 bucks a month for GPRS/EDGE per month is very steep.

Thats what I have been using since I moved to Pune
Plans are slightly more expensive than Airtel but the quality of service is pretty decent
Am paying 1750/- for 750/1.5mbps (sundays and 10PM-10AM) unlimited
