Hi guys,
Finally I am thinking to upgrade to good audio gear, please do suggest your preferred choice. I mostly listen to R&B,Hip Hop, classic rock and occasional gaming.
previously I used creative EP-630 and HD-201 with my Dell studio 1555. I will be primarily using Dell studio to drive the cans and occasionally HTC desire. regarding sourcing I will be in UK for a while.
waiting for your valuable suggestions

Cheers !!!

You should get an Asus Xonar DX along with.

How about Audio Technica M50 for about 7-8k? Plus the sound card for like 5k.

Asus Xonar DX is a sound card to be used with a PC. It will be of no use for the TS.

@TS
Wait for some sensible replies as there are a lot of knowledgable guys who can help you out.
You will need an amplifier for most of the cans in that price range so please update if you want the cans+amp or only cans in that budget.

For an approx price of various cans check here.

u can try audio technica ad700 (32 ohms) its easy to drive , audio technica a700(closed),shure srh 840, denon a-hd 2000 or a-hd1000

i have ad700 .. my sony vaio laptop easily drives ad700...:)

audio gurus correct me if i am wrong:ashamed:

I am looking for best cans within the budget and if it is with cans+amp I could stretch budget a bit. guys do keep your suggestions coming please :)

If you want a agressive sound, get the Grado RS2 or RS1i. If you want a closed back isolating hp get a D2000, if you want a party sounding headphone, get a A900.
If you want portable, smaller and lighter, get the HD25-1 II.

All of the above would require a decent source i.e. a dac/amp

D2000's have isolation ?
They have poor isolation and high sound leakage compared to other closed headphones but a better than open headphones though

will IEMs do ....?
IE8 is available in UK for 140 pound .at some authorised stores ( dont remember the name but ....really i saw it)...great deal if you ask me ...great soundstage- great bass- it does everything Headphones are good at .!!

otherwise go for denon d2000 ....very easy to drive ...great with games, movies and movies ...!!

First you need to decide what kind of sound signature you are looking for ? Open cans or closed ones ? How important is isolation for you ? Willing to go amp'ed / spend on a good DAC ?

AH-D2000 can be bought for about 15k via GEB / AudioFunk India. They dont need an amp but a good DAC helps a lot . Wont sound bad with onboard/ Xonar but there's a good 30-40% improvement with little more power with the uDAC. Also its isolation is not the best but definitely not very bad.It does get a little warm and sweaty after long hours of usage but thats pretty normal with closed cans and indian climate. Sound Quality wise they are defintely one of the best sounding cans under 300$ .

Other options worth considering is a cheaper headphone with a good DAC. M50s, Shure SRH-840,AT-A900 etc.

yea i meant compared to open backed headphones. :)

haya look into the ultrasone hfi 780/ for hip hop and rap itll give u plenty bass.. and the slogic will be fun for rock aswell, its super easy to drive aswell.. no amp required. :)

^ ... donno if the ultrastone are easy to drive ..( he said he will use them with HTC and laptop)
the d2000 are easy to drive .. ( as faheem suggested they will benifit from a DAC)
..or you could get greadp sr80i ...it will come around $100 but will be a great improvement over your present HPs
and they are very very easy to drive (right ....benny?)

ive used them bro.. they r 32ohm, very easy to drive. used em directly off my mbp / dellstudio and itouch - (used them with a ibasso d2+boa aswell) detailed a bit better..more seperation in the instruments.. d2k benefit from a amp way more then the 780's .. plus the 780s isolate way better then the d2, also he said that "I mostly listen to R&B,Hip Hop, classic rock and occasional gaming." so grado's is not what he should be getting. 780's r awesome for someone listening to bass intensive music.. its not bloated at all.. just right. slam n impact r great too.. can handle any genre u throw at them... they r one of the best all rounders ive heard and used.. only get a bit uncomfy for longer sessions but if u can live with that.. they sound they pump out will always have u smiling :)

most closed HPs will get sweaty /uncomfertable after a while.. ...if you are going to use them for long hrs ...better get a open one

If thy are easy to drive ....they are best suited ...yeah better suited for you then the grados
...ask toxic if he can import them!

Hi guys I am willing to spend a bit more for DAC, a good combo headphone + amp willing to stretch upto 20k. I am preferring closed cans and comfort is also my priority.

Thanks in advance guys.

^akgs with amp. will go beyond 20K....grados are not suited for his type of music ....ultrasone available in UK also ...bayers, AT, AKG 701 available here with local warranty
...what options exactly ? (on headphone) ....yeah importing an amp will be a better option.

@strategy yea the grado's don't require amping but you would notice a difference in the Sr80i driven from a cellphone / pmp / laptop / dedicated dac. Not as big a difference as other hp's considering these are still entry level audiophile hps but you will notice that some of the detailing is lost when driving them through an amateur dac or a Portable device.
Unless it has RSA or Pico written on it ;)

Given a 15k budget like the OP has mentioned, i would put my money on an Audinst Mx1 + AudioTechnica M50.
Audinst mx1 can be sourced from Audiohub - Singapore's one stop audio online shop
The reviews can be found on headfonia or head-fi. STFW!!!
And Toxicdrift has a thread in the IC section for the M50s.

Both are excellent products and would provide audio pleasure to any music genre lover.
