Hi guys,
We're moving to a bigger office & require more printers. We require about 3 B&W printers in total i.e 1 each for the accounts, sales & operations department. I was thinking of going in for the HP 1020 laserjet as many ppl suggested laserjet b&w makes more sense than taking a b&w inkjet.
Any suggestions if there are more vfm b&w laserjets besides this.. and when i say vfm im talking abt the toner/cartridge.

I'm also looking for a colour printer for my department - Creative. Right now I'm using the HP 2600n - a set of toners for this costs 12,000 :S .. Hence i need something good but then again not too expensive. I think a inkjet would be better in this case. Could you guys please suggest? I was thinking of something in canon.

Cheers,
Ash

Last week a friend wanted a printer for office work so I asked Prime for prices for CHEAP HP Lasers and was quoted 5300/- for the 1018 and 6600/- for the 1020. I recommended the 1020 and my friend bought this one - I set it up for him and I was amazed at how smoothly everything worked in this printer - the toner and lids and tray setups were smooth and needed no force of any kind - in contrast to this is the FREE Samsung 1610 Laser I got with my 740N LCD monitor which requires everything to be banged and slammed in to work. I have to literally SLAM the toner into the printer otherwise it does not work :@

GET THE HP 1020 !! DONT BUY OR EVEN ACCEPT A FREE SAMSUNG LASER !!!

@ Eazy

will you please share your experience of SAMSUNG LASER.

many local clients also ask for it...... I didn't used it yet so can't comment.

Hey Eazy,
yep the one we have at work is pretty good. So I guess I'll just pick up a few more 1020's :D ..

Regardign the colour printers - inkjet - since its cheaper when it comes to the colour.. what do you suggest? I spoke to a dealer at lammy today, he told me
about something i heard abt frm a friend - that there is this system where you will get external ink cartidges which automatically refill the cartridges in your printer and its really cheap to refill .. 1500 for all 4 to refill (inkjet) .. so was thinking of this, and he said it works on as hp as of now ( he thinks)

Let me know if you guys have heard about this before and if it is a sensible thing to do as well.

Thanks,
Ash

YES I have heard about this - seen ads for this in local computer trade magazines too. Dont know how good it is though. The one I have seen had massive external cartridges with plastic pipes going to the print heads - before you go and buy this check with people who know about it if it is worth while.

@iosoft ... what can I say besides what I have already mentioned - the Samsung 1610 Laser is a P.O.S. I dont like it at all - it is not as well made as the HP 1020 and I have a lot of problems to get the toner cartridge inserted - it is a real struggle each time. Also the paper out tray's paper clip is terrible - very flimsy and difficult to manupilate. UGH !!

Please Note: My experience is limited to the Samsung 1610 model - possibly the other models are better :)

Are talking about Laser Printer Cartridge (Color Toner) or Deskjet Printer Cartridge (Color Ink Cartridge)?

Wow those cis cartridges have 85 ml of ink whereas a genuine ink cartridge contains just 5 ml. :O

But the ink has a long way to travel ... GAWD knows if this system has ink drying up problems if not used regularly

exactly the very same though i had in mind. but the guy who reviewed it in post #8 didn't tell abt any such probs. Incidentally he's stopped using this now and switched to lower priced refills bcause of the hassle of setting up this device.

Why would you want to mess with something like that? I buy colour cartridges (new, not refills) at just Rs 120/- for my Canon Pixma IP1000. The make is ImageMaster and a colleague of mine gets it for me. You can even get 3rd party cartridges from Amkette by buying them online. I have been using them for the last 2 years without any issue. Saved enough money to buy a new printer if the 3rd party cartridges were to destroy it but the printer is going strong so far.

Decent results too. I have even used these cartridges to print photgraphs.
