Storage Solutions Suggest Good DVD Writer

Nothing is reliable these days. My brand new Samsung SATA has defective lens, not reading DVDs.

My Samsung IDE turned out real good however. I recommend that!

I also was recently bitten by poor writer quality...

question: is it worth (possible) buying some premium brand/model? like plextor or something from the US for peace of mind and reliability?

I bought a Lite-on going by its good reviews, but it refused to write Dual Layer DVD's within a year and I lost several DVD's. Got an LG just two months back. Its working fine, and I don't think there's too much to be desired for 1100 bucks, since I had got the Liteon at 2000.

i had samsung combo which worked till 2 months :(, got a replacement, worked again for a month or so , then got asus which worked for more than 3 years , then got LG, almost a year, till up & running (touchwood) :hap2:

 almost every company has got its name spoiled in this thread (Except Lite-on)

...

Il add my exp to it:

Asus 20x Lightscribe SATA - Worked for 1 month, then RMA, Then worked for 10 days, then RMA, then i shifted to samsung. Good since 7/8 months although some ppl wid samsung also having problems.

So my suggestion:

Go for the DVD writer which takes minimum time in RMA

I guess samsung has got best A.S.S. among all mentioned (They replaced my frnd's 1 month old samsung hand-to-hand) :hap2:
