Suggest handycam

Need handycam for less than 25K (with warranty and bill in Mumbai)

1. N00b when it comes to shooting videos
2. Intermediate knowledge about photography (aperture/shutter speed/exposure) etc. Have been using a Canon S2IS for a long time
3. Need ease of use and quick transfers to PC (only HDD and Flash based recos please)
4. Am quite careful about fragile electronic equipment in general.
5. Primary usage is shooting family functions, my 7 month old kid and occasional travel.

Would prefer Sony/Canon.

I've heard that Sony are leaders in this product segment. Is it true?

Canon FS100 and Sony DCR-SR47E fall into similar price brackets (around 22-23K). Which of these would be preferred.
 
I have a bias towards Canon. I have had negative experience with Sony in the past...
 
I have sony HD SR10 HDD cam, work great almost at par with tape recorder in well lit areas, tape recorder have the highest quality by it too must trouble.

the best would be Flash based Cam, but it cost a bomb right now.
 
I don't know why are you guys saying that Flash based players cost a bomb. I've been trying to find costs of one and the Canon FS100 is priced at 21.5K in Croma - Add to that a 16Gb SDHC card (2.8K at Croma) and you're set for around 6-8 hrs of recording IIRC.

Even Sony's flash based players are cheaper than a few of their HDD counterparts

You may be talking about the other xx10 models which are HD, etc.
 
HD & Full HD units are still 50k more. The ones talked about above are in ur budget.
