hi,

I am thinking of upgrading my existing Keyboard & Mouse (taken from my old rig).

My budget is around 2k - 2.5 k not more.

I am looking for the following features (if the budget allows it):

1- ergonomic keyboard (must)
2 - high DPI mouse or a laser mouse like the genius ergo (if possible).
3 - wireless (if possible).

suggestions for separate components are also welcome.

regards - sunil

i got my microsoft mouse + KB (wireless) combo for 3k about 1-2 years back, however he had got it from singapore and it had no manufacturers warranty, but he did give me a 1 year store warranty :) ... Its a good set it has given me trouble free service for the time i have had it. mouse is good with 2 thumb buttons. i think it would make a nice purchase.

(i have no idea about the specs of these things i got them out of a nondescrpt cardboard box :) )

what are you mainly gonna use the mouse for? why do you require high dpi? in many cases, laser/high dpi mice aren't needed at all... so you might be wasting money on it. if you lemme know a few things about the intended purpose (im assuming gaming, if so what games and what resolution do you play them at? also, what sensitivity do you use?) i could recommend a few.

thanks guys for ur replies.

well my usage is mostly gaming. I play FPS games like Q3, Q4 & Halflife 1 & 2, RTS games like homeworld is also in the list.

The resolution that i mostly play at is 800 X 600 (eg. Q4) and 1440 x 900 in Half life 2.

If a decent setup can be purchased in this budget that can suffice the above needs then i'll go for it.

pls suggest.

Get the MX518, very good mouse for gaming, its for 1.4k. And everybody here recommends the Samsung Pleomax keyboard for gaming, its pretty cheap too, 200 bucks or 250 i think. Its a good combo

If u want wireless u dont have much choice, and certainly not gaming mice. You'll get a MS wireless desktop 1000 for 1.7k, i think its a 800 dpi(or maybe 1000) mouse and multimedia keyboard. Its good for the price

thanks hunter MX518 even i have heard praises here.

regarding Wireless, yes even i know that there aren't much choices for me in the budget that i have set. but then wired sets are more responsive if i look at what i'll be using them for.

so can anyone here suggest a ergo keyboard ?

What are ur opinions on the Genius ergo mouse, how much does this one cost ???

I have the ergo 525 and ive been pretty happy with it(until recently when it had to go for rma.. :@), not sure of the current pricing but 1.4k for the MX518 its a steal. Id much rather prefer a logitech than genius. I would have gone for the MX had it been available for even 2k at the time

Go with logitech keyboard and mouse both have 3 yrs. warranty, I'm sure you will not require WARRANTY as, as per one of my hardware friend Logitech have RAREST problem with KB & Mouse.

I think logitech mfg. microsoft's mice and kb

will a 1000dpi bluetooth based wireless optical mouse (Logitech V270) be good for casual gaming (FPS games especially).

any idea how much does it cost.

how to bluethooth mice perform, and how do they cost?

i am looking at one for my Notebook as i want to be free from wires

Bluetooth wireless input devices (Keyboard and Mice) tend to be costly as most these products are recent entires into the market. I do not know the exact price of V270, but it would be a safe bet to assume a price of at least 3.5k considering the US price.

Besides for any sort of gaming, I would not recommend a wireless mice due to the problem with lag which may not be apparent for regular desktop use but will be a real bother when you start gaming.

I have a microsoft comfort curve keyboard. It's comfortable to use, looks great, and is about half the price of microsoft natural keyboards. It doesn't have all the extra buttons though...no my documents my computer etc. It has some multi-media keys, and some browsing buttons I never use.
I recommend it highly.

I also have an i-ball laser mouse. It's comfortable, fits well in my hand, has internet back-forward buttons, and my personal favourite, an application pop-up button that I use all the time.
It's decent for gaming, but it's got a very high resolution that can't be turned down. I had a button problem after about a year of use. I took it to the service center personally, and they fixed it in about 15 mins.
I would probably replace it with a logitech G5, but not with an mx518. I've used the 518, and though its got better ergonomics, I can't do without the extra buttons and higher resolution.
And a 1000dpi mouse is not something you want to waste your money on.

I never said an mx518 wasn't 1800dpi.
My reference to a 1000dpi mouse was in reply to whether he should pick up a cheap wireless combo.

I really liked the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=043

it'll take some time for u to adjust with the keys and some may not like it, but for me it was really good. Costs arnd 2.5k iirc.

Saw this late. I've been using ergo keyboards for over 7 years now. No stress, total comfort. The first MS natural is still working (heavy duty usage mind you)! I bought an MS4000 this year. Beautiful keyboard, and very comfortable.
