hi guys,
My asus m4a 785dm pro has gone kaput and see the luck with asus,
we two friends bought this two motherboard of same model from the it wares and both of those have died at same time.
to hell with asus and its quality control .

now we both are in market for new motherboard.
i have amd athlon 2 635 processor and 4gb ddr 2 800 memory by kingston.
I have decided to go atx and buy motherboard which is having better quallity control and better after sales support.

Do suggest me Full atx motherboard.

thanks guys.
need my desktop running as soon as possible.

i searched around and found gigabyte 970 d3 which fits my use but it does not have onboard graphics and its ddr3 and prime does not have it or so.

880 ga ud3h is what they are suggesting for 6500.

is it good deal?

The 880GA-UD3H is a DDR3 board as well. 6.5k looks like a nice price for a full ATX board.

I'd say dump the RAM and buy new DDR3 sticks. DDR3 is pretty cheap right now.

If at all you do go with this board, check if its the newer Version 3.0 with a black CPU socket since those have (slightly crippled) support for the newer Bulldozer procs.

OT: How exactly did your Asus board die? What PSU were you using with it?

Eddy boss,

I already decided to dump ddr2 and buy new motherboard.

Only thing I am wondering what do about am3+ support?

Do I get 970 series or 880 will do?

I am using corsair cx400 power supply and one fine day I was using desktop and it just froze display and later on started showing tearing up of display and then developed full split screen and later on no display and system does start with fan on and everything but no video out.

You won't believe eddy , we both friends bought same motherboard from same shop(theitwares) and both motherboard are dead at same time with same symptoms.

Height is we both using corsair power supply in well ventilated cases.

Bro, I have Gigabyte 880 GM USB3 AM3+ mobo... It retails for 4500/- and Gigabyte 880 GM USB3 L AM3+ retails for 4200/-. Those are the only boards available at lammy. No other chipsets having AM3+ sockets have arrived here AFAIK.

Both are Micro ATX boards. I would not recommend those boards to people who are having a 6870 and above card, coz most of its sata ports come in way of those cards. users having GPU length equivalent to current 6850, they can go for these gigabyte boards

Yeah, these cards are big, barely fits in 1-2k cabinet, also gigabyte boards r sometimes hard to find.

Gigabyte India had mentioned on their facebook page that the GA-990FXA-UD7 and GA-990FXA-UD5 are available. Although these are top of the line and bound to be pretty expensive. You can check if they have the 970 chipsets in as yet.

Not too sure what all is expected with Bulldozer + 9xx chipsets, but as of now you won't get some of the power saving features on Bulldozer with the older 8xx chipsets.

Agree eddy,

what you suggest?

I will be using this system for at least 2 yrs or so.

I guess quadcore athlon should last till windows 8 or so.

Do you think is it worth to get 9** series motherboard at this point.

My only upgrade might be is to ssd and might might be some gfx card.

So which is right choice for me?

Confused here by lack of bulldozer performance data.

help me decide which motherboard to grab

Thanks.

Its a gamble preparing for Bulldozer without knowing how its performing. And there are hardly any AM3+ boards.

I don't think you will see performance differences with 8xx + Bulldozer; you would just lose some extra features.

I was in a similar dilemma, luckily I was starting from scratch so opted for an LGA 1155 platform.

Your quad core will be more than enough for Win 8, unless you're running heavy apps. Win 7 is hardly CPU intensive.

Check for the 880G-USB3 board. Its full ATX and AM3+. If Prime doesn't have it, contact Gigabyte and ask where you can source it from.

Edit : The 990FXA-UD5 is 12,699 at SMC. Kinda expensive IMHO.

I agree with you eddy.

I will not bother about am3+ .

Will buy simple am 3 atx and get dine with it.

Thanks.

quick google shows its available at lynx india ( i guess arambir) for 5460.

only fallacy i see is sb 710 so no sata 6gbps ( for ssd upgrade)

thanks eddy.

No asus sorry mate.

Got burnt with two motherboard purchased at same shop same time and both running with quality hardware and both motherboards have died at same time.

So no more asus stuff in my computers.
