Looking for a good P&S cam within 8-9k budget. No specific choice of brands as of now.

Requirement is simple :P
- Don't need those huge megazoom cameras . Currently own an old Fujifilm S5100 cam which works well but looking for a compact/pocketable/medium sized cam to carry around all times.

- 3x to 6x zoom should be fine i guess :D

- Internal/external battery no issues with either.

- Good/Best night shot/ low light shooting capability for a P&S :P

- IS is a must for non blurry pics :D

- wide angle lens possible in this price point?

U can go for the Canon A1100IS. Got it recently and the picture quality in low light conditions was pretty neat. Got it for 8.5K.

look for the recently launched a3100is from canon for 9k much better than a1100is which old now.

another from canon recent launch is ixus 105is for 10k

also see fujifilm f70exr which is really a good cam(its old but gold)

or the latest from nikon s4000 for 10.5k has even got hd video recording at 720p and has a 3" touchscreen

Any comparison with A1100IS or IXUS 95IS?

Update:

Found some suggestions from a good camera forum

I'm in the same market for a good P&S camera for when I don't want to take my DSLR around, and I've found the A1100 to be quite promising. I found the Lumix line to offer great features for low prices, but looking at more reviews, it seems there is a reason for that...the actual performance seems to be sub-par (some complained of not focusing quickly, not metering correctly indoors), so I think I will stick with the Canon.

The A2000 is about $50 more, but has much better optical zoom. My friend has the A1000 and is quite pleased with it, so I would probably go that route. The only thing I don't like about either of those models is the wide zoom is 30+. Hope this helps.

In low light conditions, canon seems to have an upper hand.

Suggestion: Stick to Canon

Will update this post when i find more information.

The fuji70exr seems to be a good low light P&S cam provided you stick with the 5mp mode. I am not much worried of the 5mp but the amount of fiddling required to get good shots makes me think twice. Since I already own a Fuji which required fiddling to get the best out of it I am bit skeptical if I want to again get something in those lines as this is probably going to be strictly a P&S to get the work done. The F70EXR seems to be the best P&S shoot out there if used in proper hands beaten by S90 from canon.

I have used A2000IS sometime and it was quite good in outdoor for a P&S and decent for low light with flash and indoors. The AA battery is also a positive point from my front.

The Fuji cams have their share of misery to add with the goodies they offer. Like poor video recording, low batt life and poor flash photography. I hardly use my old fuji once it becomes dark as the photo doesn't do any justice.

The lumix does seem to be better than canon in VFM and the features they offer like 25mm wide angle, HD video recording and all but dont have any personal experience.

I wish the Fuji F31d was still in production :/
