Hi guys , i'll be soon taking a laptop , probably H.P Or DELL with 3gb or 4gb ram..

I've just used vista in one of my friend's laptop, his config was core 2 duo proccy wit 1gb ram, but i found its not running smooth on it, COPY , PASTE takes so much time in it than xp , also WHILE INSTALLING DRIVERS(say when a pen drive is inserted), it takes hell of a time to install drivers.. Why is it so? Is it because he has just 1gb ram or prob of vista?
Also tell me whether i can downgrade to xp as most of the laptops now a days bundles with vista.. Pls suggest..

Dude, whatever the things you hear, do not go for XP. Not after nearly 2 years of a new OS being released, which is better than almost 98% of all the aspects..
After 2 years of Xp's release, people would have probably adviced you to still go for Win 2000. But you now know what would have been the better choice.

If you are taking 3 or 4 Gb lappy, then no use going for XP as it wont be able to utilize it. At least with Vista, you will be able to get super fast app launches on account of the 3-4GB RAM because of SuperFetch.

And on the latest procs, installing drivers (especially Pendrives), is a matter of flash. I have personally seen my pendrives open up in a wizz on inserting them on the Vista lappys.

XP was a soldier, but it has been decommissioned. You would be getting the best bang for money if you opt for Vista now.

What are the main fixes we can observe after updating with sp1 in vista, . . Also AERO effect is avialable in HOME PREMIUM EDITION?

while windows me release I'm using Win98 (I think 98 is more fast n stable ratherthen me)

after launch windows xp I'm using Winme (I think me is better n stable rather then windows 98)

after launch Windows Vista I'm Using Windows Xp (last 1 years) Now i said Xp is the best.

still I'm not using Windows Vista.. May me When Windows Home Server is popular then i Use Windows Vista.

Well, i have a dell inspiron 1525 with Vista home premium.
it is good and fast on 3 GB RAM. but tasks are often longer in reference to mouse clicks.

It's all about getting used to it. go for Vista!

go for vista business editon or ultimate... wit 3-4gb of ram u r system wont be slower and do tweak vista once u get 2 knw abt it .. i am Loving Vista Ultimate...:hap2: :ohyeah:

You just wrote your thesis on your knowledge of Windows OS. Good one, can we start laughing or there is more to come :S

Most of the bugs have been solved, and File copying speed has been increased by 10%. Problems which users reported using the Problems Report and Solutions application on Vista have also been resolved.
And yes, Aero is available on Home Premium.
Dont even think about XP, once you use Vista on a compatible PC, you wont feel like switching to XP.

GO for vista if u have minimum 2gb of ram... (not sayin that 1gb wont work but 2gb makes it totally lag free)

and also vista has matured with time.

i am using it from Day1 of it release and can say its better than xp

CAn one buy a new laptop in Mumabai without ne OS preinstalled ie w/o purchasing any OS?
Yes, Contact Dell. Their N Series Vosto Laps are without OS. You can also request them for any of their other laptops without the OS.

Acer also gives bare laptop.
All the linux based and DOS based laptops can be considered as without OS laptops. You are not paying for the OS in the deal.

Contact the local showrooms and place your request with them, all of them would be interested in offering you deals.

What about drivers then? Can i create a RECOVERY CD after loading O.S and drivers , i heard NORTON GHOST helps to do it? Is it so?

thanks guys....I had this doubt in my mind for months, coa all of my friends who have bought lappys, say they had to by the Win XP too.
various brands, acer, compaq etc.

Install the OS, Install the drivers, and then make a backup image. If you have Windows Vista Ultimate or Business editions, its backup tool will create an image which you can easily restore, giving you a better option than Norton Ghost.

Always remember, you are the customer. They need you, not the other way round. Make a demand, one or the other brands will accept. Pull them as much as you can, they will fall in line.

Even on laptops which ship with Windows, you can choose to not accept the Windows EULA and then ask for a refund from the laptop company. But this process is tedious and requires you to talk to the customer care of the company and takes time.

But what if i'm using WINDOWS XP OR VISTA HOME EDITIONS? Is any other software which does better job than GHOST?
