Suggest some bands

definitely check out foo fighters , radiohead , muse , porcupine tree if you havent
 
To be honest, I tried bands inclining towards Death Metal,Progressive etc. But all they do is shout in hoarse voices..Sure the guitar work and the music in general is cool.. And by the way, since the thread starter had a liking for Bands liek Breaking Benjamin,3 Days Grace i recommended LP.

Just my opinion. To all, their own !

(GnR-ish)

Edit: Nu-Metal sucks too! It's not even metal, it doesn't even have solid Guitar riffs for crying out loud! It's not metal, hell, It's not even a genre. It's an Embarrassment (mispronounced as a Music Genre)created by Artists that have little or zero talent.

Amorphis. Even though that may not really fall into the "alternative" stream. If its lp'osh type of songs you want, go for breaking benjamin and three days grace.

IMHO Tool has way more music talent and intelligence than Metallica (post Ride the Lightning), U2, GnR and Aerosmith put together. All of those dish out simple commercial crap and are as bad as Stinkin Park.

The issue with Tool is people don't get what they are trying to put out and diss the band while the real issue with people's not so common sense & lower IQ to understand Tool.

Wow. just wow. you actually compared Aerosmith, GnR and Metallica to TOOL? and that too combined? wow man...just wow...

TOOL's music is as melodious and rhythmic as sticking a cactus in your anus and chewing glass. I can't believe you had the audacity to compare legends like Aerosmith and GnR to dumbshits like TOOL, who can't sing a god damn song without saying "**** X, **** Y" twenty thousand times. When GnR/Aerosmith were rocking the world, the retards of TOOL were still in their mommy's tummy. Music has to evolve but If anything, TOOL aren't evoluting the genre, they are toxicating with the bullshit they affectionally call music.

Everyone's free to listen to what they like, be it Britney, Nsync or LP. You're also free to experiment and explore Thats what this thread is supposed to be about. Enough of the "I only listen to highly intellectual music" bullcrap :P

Anyhoo, just a few of my recommendations in no particular order - Opeth, Dream Theater, Tool, A Perfect Circle, NIN, Amorphis, Porcupine Tree, Blind Guardian, Moonspell, Mnemic, Nile, Cryptopsy...

For female vocalist pseudo-goth/metal - Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation and The Gathering.

If you just want plain late 90's melodic tune-y rock check out Silverchair and Our Lady Peace.

It's high time we started a flamefree metal/rock numbers thread :ohyeah:
 
each one to his own.. no point comparing genres... or bands.. mainstream stuff works for some.. and that doesent mean they got no taste in music
 
also check out Rammstein (best songs would be Keine Lust,Engel, Du hast, Feuer Frei ) , Chevelle (The Red, Vitamin R) , Nightwish (Dark Chest of Wonders,Ghost Love Score ) & Evanescence (bring me to Life) ...

Sorry to bump this thread, but I would like to thank everybody for their reccos.

I must say I hated Tool at first, but after listening to them for some while, I am just amazed. They are the most refreshing, unique band I have ever listened. Somebody here said they don't have any melodic and rhythmic sense. I will have to strongly disagree with that. I am a drummer, and Danny Carey is probably the grooviest drummer (with Gavin Harrison) I have heard after John Bonham. I have also developed a great liking for Opeth, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation and Porcupine Tree. I liked Breaking Benjamin and Three Days grace initially but their songs get a bit too cheesy for me.

Anyways, thanks for all the help. Maybe their should be a music discussion thread.
