Suggest some good foreign language movies and tv series.

Whoa you watch Kieslowski? Nice!

Arrow, I won't just suggest foreign movies, but directors as well. Check out Pedro Almodovar especially 'Habla Con Ella (Talk To Her). He's one of my favourite directors. Then there's Alejandro Gonsalez who directed the brilliant Amores Perros, 21 Grams and now his most recent Babel. Another of my favourites is Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders. This movie is the original City of Angels, not the cheap hollywood trashy version with Meg Ryan it was remade into.

Hehe looks like our tastes are quite similar. I've seen Habla Con Ella... beautiful. Seen Wings of Desire as well... another classic :).

Isn't that the one with the retarded guy and the girl in a coma. Yeah, nice :bleh:

Btw have you guys seen Tetsuo the Iron Man? Weird.

Yep it's brilliant. I'm trying hard as hell to get my hands on a good copy of Babel.

If you're a fan of Monica Bellucci then I recommend 'Irreversible'.

Irreversible was a real good movie without that over the top subway scene. That particular part was absolutely disgusting.

Anybody here seen 'Malena' starring Monica Bellucci? If not, procure a copy somehow and see Monica in all her 'glory'!!

But even otherwise its a good coming-of-age movie of a adolescent boy. It is beautifully shot in Italy. WWII atmosphere has been well created. Do see it.

I saw Y tu Mama tambien today....

Decent movie.... of course, lots of *scenes* and language. But honestly, nothing exceptional. IT was nice....better than the usual crap...but I didnt see what people raved abt....

Will see some others one in the hols...

Ya it was indeed an excellent movie..
Try watching the movie with headphones on..there's a distinct background music when the male protagonist goes to find the rapist in that gay club, which was chosen to make the viewer feel nauseated..

Another movie recommendation - C.R.A.Z.Y : A Canadian (language: French) black comedy with an excellent screenplay..

El crimen del padre amaro is another decent movie.

Yeah, but I guess that was the effect the director wanted. I love the way that each of the four parts the movie was divided into ran without any cuts.

Chaos, I'm guessing since our tastes are so similar, you seen Cidade de Deus (City of God) as well! That movie was one of its kind. Revolutionary, I'd call it. Anyone here who's interested in foreign cinema simply cannot NOT watch City of God. It's directed by Fernando Meirelles - same guy who made The Constant Gardener, which I, for some strange reason, haven't watched yet.

A different genre altogether but anyone here seen Ôdishon..Boys don't fall in love too soon :p..A masterpiece from the legend that Takashi Miike truly is..Also check out his "Ichi the Killer"..

Warning: Not for the faint hearted! ;)

thats the only foreign language movie i saw ...and i must say i enjoyed it thoroughly .....:eek:hyeah:

Also i will Suggest Boot,Das (german) .. its a real nice and compelling movie .. and probably there also was a tv series of same name ..
and not foreign but try any Bengali movies by Satyajit ray ,specially Apu trilogy, he is one of my favorite directors .. his movies are like poetry .. :)

also try The Motorcycle Diaries(must if you like che guevava),Man bites dog ,
Run Lola Run (seen it on Star Movies probably long time ago .. the making of the movie is great :) ) etc ..

^^The Motorcycle Diaries is a strictly okay. They go on a bike ride through some great locations but the story itself is pretty ordinary.

Itchi the killer is the weirdest movies i have ever seen. But somehow i enjoyed it a lot.I completely agree with amd that it's certainly not for the faint hearted!!---Scene where he cuts off his tongue!!!

I recently watched the trilogy and it wasn't at all what I expected... the series became more and more melodramatic as it goes on; the last one especially plays out like an evening soap.

imo John Abraham's movies would have recieved more accalim that Ray's had he gotten similar amount of exposure.

Btw, anyone seen Babel yet? And Volver sucks fyi.

 .. you didnt like APU trilogy .. i am shocked  .. the only emotional portion is there which is required ..tell me where it was overdone .. the scene where Durga died almost made me cry ... and Ray didnt JUST got exposure .. it was his first movies and he earned it .. only thing about the movie that can be criticized is its slow pace .. but according to Ray , it was deliberate to capture the slow-laid back attitude of the people... what did you expected anyway   dont criticize something which you dont understand .. :)
