Since my mom working shift changed, no one remains in home during most of the time in day, so i am planning to setup surveillance in my house to look after kids in home (indoor + outdoor)

I am planning to go for wireless ip option, since it will create less hassle.

As of now, shortlisted :

1) Roouter : Linksys WRT1900AC
2) Camera : http://www.ebay.com/itm/5PCS-PTZ-Se...39?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item27e2b5cdb7

i just want to know, is there a way that i can attach and external HDD to router and make it record all thing, or i will have a system to run 24x7 to do the recordings (NAS enabled) ?

all suggestions are welcomed :)

I am interested in how this turns out. Looking for some nice ideas.
BTW I thought you were the only kid in your house. Are there more. :)

These cams in link are way too costly.Get the hikvision cams from any local shop with hikvision 4 channel DVR.
Cams will cost around 3k per cam approx and 4 will be more than enough. 7k for DVR with 500GB HDD.
Connect the router with DVR and you can get live feed anywhere even on smartphone but it will compromise the internet costs. 500GB can record upto 15 days of feed.

Better goto a local shop and ask for the setup as setting up the system is a bit tricky.

Is Hikvision good? Which is the best survelliance system in today's time which can work day and night all the time. I dont mind the costs but want a very good system which can give good view even if zoomed from 500 meters far.

+1 to it, please @harshit143 help regarding it, also i want a total wireless setup, no wiring

Hikvision is too good for the purpose. Its a well known company for security cams. They have complete range so you can check with the local seller about the cam for upto 500m zoom and all.

Wireless cams lacks quality as well as they r mostly available of chinese brands. They record on sd cards so you wont get long duration recordings and i am unsure if they comes with that live feed using router.

@harshit143 , the link for the one which i had given, works flawlessly with WIFI router with streaming :D :D , the only issue with me is that i will have to go with 5-6 cameras, and wiring all over home my mom won't allow me to do :(

Would also suggest to go with Hikvision. Cameras - it depends. Outdoor is about 2.5K, while indoor is 2K. 16 ch DVR is 9.5k. 8 ch ones are 7K.

IP Cameras would cost about 5~7K a piece.

You still need to power up the wireless cams with cables unless they run on batteries :)

Looking at your selected wireless cam 12V power is required. I would suggest a 12V 6-8 Amp smps that supplies to all cams.

You could use cat5 ethernet cables for video connection if distance is not too long but Im not sure about the quality drop as the normal coax cables are rated at certain impedance for video for max clarity

Why insist on wireless? considering single building 4 cameras will be sufficient and won`t cost much for wiring.

How about a all in one package? Ones you get in ebay.com in tonnes.

please suggest some, it will be extremely helpful to me , budget 1000-1500$:D :D

@Vagabond , the only reason i am insisting on wireless is that, 4-5 cameras will be put on ground floor, router in 1st floor, and i stay in 2nd floor :D :D

Seriously 1000 to 15000 $ :). Boy are you insane. If you are looking at Wireless setup, why not from India and not US.
Also there are big guys looking to rip you and give good setups too. Try looking at them.

Get hikvision ip cameras a good low cost one DC-2CD2032i ,if you want something a bit more vandel proof get DC-2CD2332i (for indoor use 2.8mm lens)
DS-2CD8254FWD-EI(Z) has powered zoom from 2.8mm to 9mm but is expensive.

All the above have a really good sensor for amazing lowlight and dynamic range.

As far as wireless most low end wifi ip cameras video buffer the good ones are expensive .

Yes you can record directly to a HDD connected on some routers, once configured .
