+1 to that !
Shops sell some good ones and the usual Chinese ones...
you might find something from sony,philips or panasonic...
don't think we can specify any models nos. :P

Yesterday I visit electronic showroom & ask for radio/transistor from sony, Philips, aiwa or any other but Branded with warranty. First he straying at me for 30 seconds & than reply Radio????? we don't deal in RADIO?

and other shops flooded with china (no gurantee/warranty) "chalake dekh lo.... ghar jaa kar band ho gya to dikha dena dekh lenge"

Search for some small electronics shop not a showroom. Any small shop which sells few music systems etc.

Where are you located? There is a shop near lamington road Mumbai, where I bought a radio for mom. It wasn't portable, but there were lot of options. I got it in some 500-600rs.

And, the smaller in radio you go, the quality of speakers deteriorates. Keep it in mind.

Also, I remember that shop owner saying that murphy was out of business, and was not ready to sell it. You might want to keep it in mind.

@emperor, you in mumbai right?

my friend bought something like this way back (around 4 yrs ago) for 4k.

Amazon.com: Sony SRF-M97 Radio Walkman: Electronics

This is the digital version. The analog version comes in 1.2-1.4k max.

Analog version: SRF-S84 (SRFS84) : Technical Specifications : mp3 players and portable audio : Sony

He had bought it from Heera panna, but dunno where its available now.

I had checked out the analog version too and has good reception even in middle of train compartment. :)

Thanks for valuable suggestion friends. I didn't find any nice model in my budget so lastly move with kk808 (KK-808 FM/MW/TV1/TV2/SW1-4 8-Band Pocket Radio with 0.25W Speaker )

Nice model with loud sound (must be quality speaker) & reception is too good compare to my FM/AM receiver.
