Suggest Virtual/multiple desktop solution

Guys in case you are familiar with virtual desktop (not virtual machines or virtualization )softwares, recommend few good ones.

Actually i want to screen record on one of the desktop and work on other simultaneously. I was using virtualization solution till now but wanna give a try to different means to save resource hogging of entire extra OS.

Edit: Btw i need it for windows XP, forgot to mention that earlier.
 
Microsoft has a free power toy for this on download on its site. This supports upto 4 desktops.

Another company has released a free virtual desktop program too which is compatible with Vista.

thanks shall give it a try. Are/were u using any of those? Becoz there are many alternatives and its difficult to judge which one is good.
 
i was using the microsoft one in my office pc. was good. but had to remove it when the admin guys found out. :)

The MS one has shortcuts to switch between desktops like win key +1 /2 /3 /4.
