Recently Burned my 250 gb external hard drive :(
Now looking to buy new one 500 GB this time !
what are the suggestion ?

Should I buy 500 GB external Drive ??
which brand ? cost ???? where to buy ??( I am in very small town of Punjab !)
OR

External Casing with 500 gb Internal Drive seperately
gain which brand? cost ?? place to buy??

One of my College is coming back from UK . 500 GB external Drive of Segate Cost just 5000 RS there but again I wont get any Gurantee I guess and I willbe screwed again like my LAt burnt drive !! Is there any way out by anychance ,like international warrenty????
 
What will you be using the hard drive for ? In a desktop or as a portable backup device ?

The Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB would be a good choice.
 
What casing were you using the the 250GB HDD ? It might have got burnt if you are using a cheap casing.

My old Disk 250 gb was Western Digital which was complete external usb ( i diddnt assemble it with casing!)drive sold by WD but still it got burned dont no why?

5.5 k seems ok !

I guess i would prefer external casing vantec -~ 2.5k plus exteral hrad diusk 500 gb ~ 2.2k

Why are HDD so pricey in India .In UK u can get 500gb external HDD for 5.2 K and that too Seaget ??????
 
^ i'm also on the lookout for a 500GB disk. Even considering buying 2x250GB ones. the 250GB ones are available for arnd 2600-2700 here in mumbai. 500GB ones are close to 5.6-6k.

well u get WD5000KS 500GB hdd for 5.2k+VAT+shipping(total 5.4-5.5k) on directpcmall. 250GB AAKS drive available for 2.5k ( VAT+shipping extra). i tried calling them up a no. of times but no one is responding. i am not willing to take the risk of making a payment by ccard and waiting forever :).

Definitely SATA if your mobo has SATA controller. i was using a vantec nexstar 3 external casing with a 250GB sata hdd for a brief period. now i'm using teh hdd as an internal drive. vantec casing is lying idle since then and with burgeoning content the need for a bigger hdd grows more and more.

Btw, even if u don't have sata controller u can always use a sata hdd in a supported external casing by connecting to your pc/lappy via usb port.

What about vantec nexstar 3 external casing ? HOw much it cost / where to buy ? online/near Delhi
 
^ It should be available in delhi ( nehru place ). maybe someone from delhi can tell you the place/store where u can get the antec casing. Here it costs arnd 2.7k.
