i want a electric bike/scooter for city use which can hold good with 2 riders and around 20km of daily run
i dont want any powerful bike with 150Cc of engine or so ... just need a bike that is good for normal use

is there any reliable electric bike which can do the job or should i go with conventional petrol bike

There are No electric bikes in India, you can only get electric scooty as of now and trust me it looks awful and feels scary on roads moreover its speed woild ensure that you get a lot of honks if u live in a metro city.

There are quite a few players available. One lady in my apartment is using one to pickup.drop her son from the bus stop. It looks no more bulkier than scooty. I have been seeing them use it since last 1 yr+. Only 2 issues I have personally heard about these bikes is (a) Poor suspension and (b) Lower speed. generally around 30-40 kmph.

Yup, you do get electric bikes in India. There was one on display outside Big Bazaar, Pune, a few months ago.
You didn't need a drivers license to ride it, and I think you didn't even have to register it with the RTO.
It looked like a really nice scooter with a 40 km/charge capacity.
Heres the link:
eZipp - Lets Go Around

The issues I have with it are :
1) A really low top-speed. ~25km/hr
2) Low load carrying capacity ~80kgs (but at the demo there were always 2 people riding the bike weighing about 120kgs)
3) No charging outlet in my garage.

I am using BSA street rider since 2½ years in Chennai. Its very economical for everyday usage. My office is about 10 km away so my daily usage is 20 km. They claim 70km/charge mileage but in real life you only get about 45 or so. So for me it suffices for 2 days. During weekends me, wife and 2 year old kid can go out, but I only get about 30km (as against 45 mentioned above) due to increased load.

You don't need a drivers license nor does the bike need registration, pretty much like a bicycle. Downside is that max speed is only 25 kmph, although you can have it increased upto 30kmph by the service guy, but at a mileage loss of about 5km.

One important thing is that you need to change the battery every 3 years - this is expected. All the figures I mentioned above are from personal experience but these were in the initial days (<2 years). After crossing 2 years, it has gradually come down and currently I only get about 12-15 km max per charge. I am soon going to move to a place nearer to office (like 4 km or so) so I can continue using it for office commute. Else I need to get a battery replacement immediately.

It's a good idea to have a petrol bike also so that when you have to go to a far away place, you can use it and for regular office use you can use the e-bike to cut costs.
