A while ago, I was advised here in this forum to get a Sempron 145 + N68 board for a replacement for an old system.

Still has not made the change. Now I can't postpone that anymore.

Usage: This will be a standby system for office use. For word processing, browsing etc.,

Should I still go for the Sempron + Mobo (in the VFM entry sense) or this combo (this comes with 2GB RAM): http://www.flipkart....de-4862724a8d8e or this combo: http://www.flipkart....f2-806eb951b047

I need to buy a HDD on top of this. Probably a 500GB.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Edit: The major advantage with the VIA combo vz-a-viz Atom Combo is that the former has an IDE port, in case I need to use the old IDE HDD.

Any suggestions?

For convenience I am listing the options here:

AMD Sempron + N68 board

Biostar VIA based combo board (Board + CPU) + 2 GB RAM

Atom D425 based Combo (Board + CPU) + 2 GB RAM

Thanks.....

I Would say AMD Sempron + N68 board or AMD 780 chipset

Advantages:

- You can Pop in a Better CPU later if at all required.

- You get PCI-E + PCI Slots.

Disadvantages:

Will cost you 1-2K more

Thanks Lozil. I think I will go for the Sempron based combination. As I also worked out (on paper. not gone to shops yet). The difference is hardly 1K. So it makes more sense to go for Sempron and get a relatively faster pc than Atom/ VIA C7. Thanks.
