CPU/Mobo Suggestion needed: Intel Mobo with RAID

Is there a Intel Mobo with RAID in the 5-6K budget range? I am looking for 4 RAM slots also. HDMI port is +/-.

I have found the latter two conditions satisfied in a couple of boards (H81/B85) etc., But they lack RAID.

But when I move to RAID, the price climbs up to 10K or so. (like H97 based.)

Any suggestions?

If anyone is wondering that's too low a budget to have RAID, I stumbled upon an AMD M5A78L-M-USB3 or MSI-970A in that range. Wondering if any Intel board will be in that range?

Edit: Edited Title, AMB Board

B85 will have RAID support. H81 will not.

Could you mention the purpose for the above?

Thanks Vivek. I don't think B85 has RAID support.

The usage will be for mainly - web development, Hadoop - Big data programming and other coding and GPGPU programming.

Hence RAID is needed for critical program/ database storage. AMD seems to having feature rich mobos at lower range vs Intel seems to have bang-for-the buck CPUs (in terms of performance) but with mobos/ chipsets not feature rich till you cross 10K+. If I get a cheaper mobo with RAID, I can invest the money in CPU or GPU.Hence this confusion.

No gaming, but some video editing (converting miniDV tapes into digital format).

Yeah, just checked - it does not support RAID. Guess I need to update myself. I am going to get some LSI cards and run freenas on a Dell T20.

OS that you are going to run?

AMD has better features, but loses out on the performance and efficiency targets.

I would run Debian OS. Or may be dual boot.

Can you pls suggest any good Intel or AMD boards for the above purpose?

My decision will branch based on the selection of the board. May be an i3 or FX.

And also what would be a good GPU for this? Any business card like Quadro (K420/K620 types) or the regular consumer ones.

Thanks for stopping by.

From what I understand, you are planning to run the entire thing on the same machine. Is that right? No virtual machines?

Yes. This will be more like a Development machine. There will be VMs also. On the VMs part, have not decided, how many exactly etc., Currently in my old laptop, I have a couple of Linux VMs on Virtual Box.

In short, VMs = Yes. How many = don't know. But, not production critical or anything like that.

You can opt for the Asus H97M-E or the H97 PLUS. The price difference between both these is only 1k and if you want crossfire support along with the features which you demand, you can opt for the H97 PLUS. Its an excellent board. If you can shell another 1k from the price of the PLUS version, you have the H97 PRO which has intel lan, 128MB BIOS FLASH ROM (dont know what purpose it would serve ) and some extra features. Even the PRO version of this chipset will fall below 9k or equal. What more do you want ?. If you are budget conscious, i would suggest to pick up the H97M-E but it will be even better if you can get the PLUS version by paying extra..

GoodLuck with your purchase
