I was looking to buy a E-book reader for my mother. Well I was going for Amazon kindle 3 wifi model.

1. If I buy from Amazon and given my mother address in India. Here should we need to pay customs again or will amazon will take care. Because my parent can't look into that part. Also how much customs charges for Kindle.

2. The purpose is to read books in Telugu font and mostly in PDF or else in webpages embedded with PDF files. So do we can browse to that page and open pdf file(can be read online only)?

3. Do i need to convert the pdf to fit into kindle format or no need to directly can use the same document file as we read in laptop?

4. Are there any other book readers? I prefer black and white so her eyes wont get strained. Are there any other good ebook readers

I did searched but could not able to find suitable answers to my questions i was looking for.

Thanks in advance and pour your suggestion...

I recently borrowed the kindle from my friend to read a PDF. From my short time with it, the PDF can be opened directly, but the fonts are small most of the time. You can zoom in and read, but that will make you scroll the page for reading every line. I found it is much easier to read after you convert it to kindle format. Converting to kindle format is pretty simple and wont take more than a minute.

Not sure about the embedded pages, dont have a wifi at home to test.

Amazon will charge expected Custom charges upfront. They will be responsible for customs clearance and everything.

^ I second that and I see the book from Faheem is like new so you can definately give it a try and for that price it might be a steal if you don't consider the brand.

If you are looking to read PDFs, need to mention that the native support (opening PDFs directly on the Kindle) isn't good. Fonts are small and reading a pain, particularly on the smaller 6" edition. The DX makes things slightly better.

Reg. customs, you can order directly from Amazon site to your Indian address, and Amazon charges you for the customs and shipping in advance, refunding you any amount, if at all applicable. So you don't have to worry about custom clearance.
