I live in a rented apartment and i do have a fridge provided by the owner but i feel the fridge is not cooling as per what it should. I am not sure if there is a problem with the fridge or the sealing around the door. But whatever it is, i am gonna observe the behavior for next few days and decide whether i want to buy one or not.
The fridge will be used for 2 people so high capacity is not needed. Do not need any fancy features and i plan to sell off the fridge later on when i might move somewhere else. So not planning to use for a lot of years.
Price i am expecting to pay under 12K, actually cheaper the better. Under 10K would be even better.
What brands should i consider ? I guess under 200 Liters would be sufficient.
Should i ever buy online or better visit shops like chrome or reliance digital and choose and buy from there ?

I would suggest you get it inspected and if the issue could be solved by gassing it up for some other minor repair go for it rather than buying a new one...
As a second option if the repair does not work out.... go for a decent size fridge even if its a 2 member family....
We are also a family of two and vegetarians so a big size freezer was not a requirement. Also I was not to inclined towards the frost free thing..... I am ok pressing a button once a few weeks.... its fun :D
I bought a 280Ltr single door LG fridge which cost me some 14K.
But it gives me comparatively more space as other similar 2 doors since its single door. and has a shelf extra than the 2 doors.
Go for a 5 star as this thing runs 24X7.

@onlyravi

Already repair done once when the fridge section of the refrigerator went bust. The freezer was working ok but it felt as if it was working like a fridge and not a freezer. It is a small but 2 door fridge. I am planning to run the fridge everyday at different setting to see which works best before deciding on whether to get a new one or not.

Around that range I think you might be able to find a Kelvinator. You can try Croma or Reliance Digital or Vijay Sales and you will get a wide range of refrigerators on display. Check out and you might get some Holi offers this week. Preferably that would be the best route of buying as if it needs any servicing or help you can call and have a service arranged. Otherwise you are dependent on the company.

Ok so it appears i might have to buy a fridge as the existing one is just not good enough. Since my budget is low i probably have fewer choices. But are there any brands i should totally stay away from ? Or any specific brand i should opt for ?
I am going to visit the chroma and reliance digital outlets which are sort of walking distance from my home. Will probably visit vijay sales as well.

So any final word from anyone before i go in evening to Chroma and Reliance Digital outlets ?
After the milk and some veggies getting spoilt today morning, i am now hell bent on getting the fridge asap. So we are going to the outlets today evening (walking distance) and check out the offerings. Hoping to get 180-190 Liters only as it will be small enough to fit where we want it to fit. Secondly as i said, it will sold when i move out of this city in (hopefully near) future.
Also as suggested before, i am reluctant to buy these white goods online and better to actually see the product and get from local store.
Any particular brand to buy even if it costs a bit more ? I don't know but i am not inclined towards Godrej and Videocon.

have a look at samsung, lg and whirlpool refrigerators. when i was searching for affordable refrigerators only these 3 companies gave vfm and well built products around the 10-13k mark.
avoid godrej, videocon, kelvinator. kelvinator was good 20 years back. now its being marketed by videocon and you wont get any service from them. maybe avoid whirlpool too since videocon looks after their product line too.

@6pack

Yes i had this in mind that even if LG/Samsung are bit more than my budget, i will buy them for peace of mind. Kelvinator was really excellent before and i know this because at my home in Mumbai we have a kelvinator 165 liters fridge which is like 25 years old and still works awesome.
Whirlpool was 50-50 so yes will prioritize on LG and Samsung.

instead of buying a fridge now and then searching for a new one, 1, 2 or 3 years down the line, why not just buy a good frost free fridge now and keep using it for the next 10-15 years? 2 yrs from now, the prices would definitely be 2-3k higher (or more) since the costs for inputs will keep rising plus our govt will keep raising taxes here and there. Even if you sell a new fridge after a few months, you wont get more than 75% of the cost back. That means you'll end up paying around 10-12k more for a new fridge again if you decide to sell and get a newer fridge.

You have a point but you see i have some "plans" which prohibit me from buying anything more expensive for now. :)

Ok so just back from croma and reliance digital. I checked LG and Samsung fridges. The 190 liters one.
The LG one is http://www.lg.com/in/refrigerators/lg-GL-205KMG5-single-door-refrigerator
This costs around 12500 Rs at reliance digital. It wasn't available at croma and the croma guy told me it is probably discontinued. I am sure he was lying. I still see them on LG website.

The Samsung one is http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/home-appliances/refrigerator/direct-cool/RR1915CCASE/TL
It is 12000 Rs.

We are planning to go with LG one. And buying from offline store only. Opinions invited.
Both are 5 star rated and work without stabilizer.

Also anyone any know how about croma brand fridges. Worth looking at ?
