Suggestions for an Answering Machine

I would like to buy an answering machine. What are the features that one should look for in it?
Between tape and digital which one is preferable.

Are there any issues with using one on an MTNL landline?

Panasonic seems to be the only brand available in India.

Could someone please suggest one and the place in Mumbai where they're available.

My budget is about Rs.3000

well u can look for panasonic models or uniden,for 3 u can get a digital answering machine mostly a 2.4ghz based cordless phone.but if u buy from the showrooms it will be expensive take for eg a Rs4000 phone in grey markets costs 6000 in showroom.although the answering machines which have cordless phone capabality wont work when power goes off.
and panasonic india doesnt have a standalone asnsering machine.so with ur budget of 3000 u can get a digital answering machine phone only from the grey market like the model KX-TG2358bx also make sure when u buy from the grey market that the phone Called ID works since many phones based on FSK system wont work with india telephone which works with DTMF standard .so that is why i have mentioned the above model which works in india too.
