Suggestions for buying a Digital Camera

I would like to buy a digital camera and have shortlisted the following models in their order of preference along with their differenting features:

1. Canon Powershot A570 IS - Image stabilisation
2. Canon Powershot A710 IS - 6X Zoom
3. Canon Powershot A630 - Swiveling LCD

At present I am inclined to buy A570 as it seems a good buy at the cheapest cost among the three. Also the imaging-resource website lists models A710 and A630 appear as discontinued.

I would like to know the opinions of experienced users.
1. Is the image stabilisation feature really useful in a 4X optical zoom A570?
2. Would A630 be a better buy due to its swivel LCD feature?
3. Is it worth paying extra for A710 for the extra 2X zoom than A570?
Discounting the optical zoom, is A710 better than A570 in terms of performance?
The newest model after A710 is A720. I don't know if its available in the market. Should I consider buying that as it would probably have the newer DIGIC III processor unlike A710.

I am considering the option of getting the camera without warranty, to fit the purchases (Camera, 2 GB memory, 4NiMH batteries, Pouch) within my budget.
1.Would I be taking a big risk in doing so? How is the reliability of Canon cameras?
2.Would I get the batteries and a charger with the camera when purchased as such?

Lastly could you please provide the the lowest expected prices for the following and the place in Mumbai from where I can get them.
1. 2 GB SanDisk SD memory card.
2. 4 nos. NiMH batteries - Brand and rating?
3. Charger (If not included with the camera)-Name of the charger?

Thanks in advance for your valuable suggestions.

Hereeeeeeeee i come :D

n my fav subject too, the powershot series..i gave it a miss yday thinking some1 else will surely help..sorry :P

nz, A630 is out. Older + no IS, Only the swivel is not gonna get u better pic quality.

same with the A710. Older DIGIC II.

Go for either 570IS or the 720IS. Personally for normal use i believe 4x optical is worth it, not worth the extra cash for 2x more + the 1 extra Mp ( i think :ashamed: ) make ur own decision based on budget. Tho right now i have 2 570ISs in the house :) 1 going to the parents ;)

Lots of ppl buy cameras in grey. Shouldnt be much of an issue. Canon is pretty reliable. + if god forbid u get an issue, u can still goto the service center (payin for it :P ) Its always a bit of a risk of course, but sometimes the cost saving justifies it :)

Grey market wont give u a bundle, u ll most prob need to buy batts, card etc separately. Should still be quite cheaper tho..check n decide.

Bought a 2Gb Kingston with warranty for 950 last week (pune) so shouldnt be much of a prob. try anyplace in lamington? :) Alfa maybe?

4 Sony batts with charger from fotofast/sony world @ 1k. Cheaper brands like uniross + camelion (?) also available around 500-700. Dunno how good tho. Get high power batts ( > 2100mAh)and ur good :D Even upto 2500,2700 mAh ones are available.

+ 1 for 570 IS ( I own it )

630 has LCD but no use.. Look of that cam is very much plastic.. Feels like cheap plastic body coated with Silver paint.

+1 for 570 IS

I own one... and its really great piece of hardware.
Got it for Rs.13995 at GK Vale, bangalore, a month back.
Came bundled with a pouch + 2GB sandisk card + 2yrs warranty + 350 photo print coupons.

Canon cams are too easy to use, get a good 2500 MaH battery.
