2. I'm not an avid gamer...play games like NFS occassionally.

3. Good keypad.. the lappy will be used a lot for programming and devalopment purpose.

4. Non-O.S option will do,as i prefer linux.

5. I don't have any brand fascination...but shall prefer good performance and ASS from the maker.

wow expecting a reply within few hrs of posting a question,TE is not a 24/7 customer support forum :@

1.Go for a 15incher if you will watch movies on it.

2. GO for a laptop with a dedicated gpu even if you want to play games only occasionally as games like NFS cant be played on integrated graphics.

3.keyboard depends on personal preference as some like soft clicks whereas some love hard tactile feedback, so try the keyboard once before buying.

4.If you prefer linux then you can save some money by going for a laptop without W7.

5.If you can go to the service centres to deposit your laptop then you can consider all major brands but if you like hassle-free onsite warranty then go for DELL which offers the best ASS for laptops in India.

There is a dell inspiron 15R/14R model without dos+i3@2.4GHz+2gb ram+Ati 5470 at rs 33k,you can also customise any inspiron to your requirements:

@RS4..........ok dude! I admit I got a bit restless...anyway,do you have any idea about TOSHIBA lappies? They have quite a few non-os models.

I am not sure about their ASS,can you shed some light?

Re: suggestions for NON-OS laptop within 40k for MCA

@red dragon..yeah,i will check about their ASS,after the pujas. The msi lappy looks good if I finally go for OS installed option.

Just changed the thread title as I will be linux more than windows(may be only in a VM) so a non os model could save a few bucks. Also the lappy will be used for my studies. I have found the following models:

Compaq CQ42-176TX
Compaq Presario Home Notebook PCs - comparison results Home & Home Office - HP

toshiba c650-l5010
:: Toshiba India ::

Could not find any DOS model in Dell & HP website.

Could you guys help with any more options from dell, HP or the like? Do consider about the ASS provided.

^^My dad had a Toshiba laptop as work laptop, the screen developed some problem and they charged 15k eventhough it was under warranty and the reason for the screen issue given by them was windows vista theme installation by the user damaged the screen  i couldnt do much as my dads IT dept. had already paid those m.f's

Vostros can be found without o.s from Chandni. Some thinkpads come without o.s ,thinkpad t4oo can be a good option, but it is probably slightly above the budget.HPs are not available without o.s and their ASS is shabby these days(though I have managed to get a replacement dv6 yesterday after a prolonged 6 months battle)You can get a HP probook for around 42-43k which is much more reliable than their pavilion notebook series.
