I'm looking to buy a car for myself, my first ever car, im about 6'3" tall medium built so all those small hatchbacks are a big no no.

Im looking for a car with a good drive feel and low running and maintenance costs, there would mostly be just the 2 of us driving the car me and my better half, however we would occasionally have friends tagging along .

The usage of the car would not be much with an occasional drive during the week and long drives over the weekends, i have narrowed down to two cars mainly that fit the bill, Wagon R CNG and Ritz Diesel ( confused between VDi & LDi), Maruti has a good track record with low maintenance and cheap parts with good service, also these are tall boy designs hence should be comfortable to drive even on long drives.

The car would be purchased in Mumbai, looking for the best deal and maybe suggestions around which car to pick, i did check alot on T Bhp prior to coming to these selections, im more inclined to the Ritz than the Wagon R for the better driving feel & build quality.

I have never bought a car before and this will be my first, ill be then adding the ICE and maybe parking sensors, still need to finalise on the accessories to put in as well.

I have obtained quotes and the Wagon R is coming to 4.88 on road with 23k in discounts with the freebies, the RitZ LDi comes to 5.66 and VDi to 6.07, main differences between the 2 are Tachometer,Central Locking,Front Fog Lights,Power Windows,B Pillars,Fog Lamps. Central locking costs 5k and 10 for fitting power windows directly from Maruti. I dont really need the rest do i? SO i could save money there.

SO let the comments come in. Also if anyone can direct me to a good deal ongoing now would be much appreciated.

IINM, internationally the Ritz (Splash) was a successor to the Wagon R which means that it is built on a newer platform. The fiat diesel engine is very reliable and is used on a LOT of models. The gearbox is way smoother compared to Wagon R whose gearbox is notchy.

So overall, if you have the moolah to spend, Ritz is a very decent buy.

Plus I don't know about Mumbai, but in Delhi you still have to sometimes stand in queues to get CNG filled.

I have no idea about the Ritz but the Wagon R gearbox IS pathetic. Really spoils the feel of the car. Suggest you go with the more recent Ritz. But if your running is low why not consider the petrol version. The price difference is pretty hefty (for mid range models) and I don't think you will make up the difference considering you won't be using the car daily.

At 10000 kms per annum, the difference between diesel and petrol usage is around 12 - 13k per annum. I don't think the cost difference will be worth it unless petrol prices continue to rise and the diesel prices remain the same.

How about Ford Figo or the new Honda Brio ??

I have used figo and i am of the same height as you and i was comfortable driving it

I second the ford Figo... But go for a diesel engine one only... Heard the petrol engine is not that good

Ford Figo, Honda Brio, Fiat Punto or any of the best sellers won't do for the OT! He needs a Ritz for the headroom thanks to his 6'3 frame! The Ritz is not fun to drive and if you still don't want a stylish, well made, comfortable, excellent performer that the Fiat Punto is then the Suzuki Swift is the next best option although at a slightly higher on road price. Avoid the Ritz -- the rear looks like its been hit by a taxi and its caved in!
